This is what happens when you are bad and have a starting QB who is struggling mightly... hope springs eternal for the back up QB's.
Seriously, though, I think from a pocket pressence perspective, Skelton definitely showed more poise in four games than Kolb has so far in the seven games.
He wasn't very accurate, but neither is Kolb.
He has a strong arm, while Kolb doesn't.
He was a rookie playing without much practice with first teamers and it showed on field. Even this year, he has not had much practice time due to his ankle injury. Kolb on the other hand is a five year veteran and it shows on the field... oh, wait...
That's the part I don't get with people saying Kolb doesn't have a strong arm. He does, not Derek Anderson strong but he has a strong enough arm the problem is his footwork and mechanics. That TD throw to Doucet on the back shoulder as Billick said you really gotta zip that to make sure it gets there and he did. The problem is his footwork is sketchy so many of his throws aren't on balance.
Saying Skelton is inaccurate but so is Kolb is a bit nice to Skelton, 53% in preseason against backups, Kolb 55% against starters. Last year Skelton 48% in real games 53 in preseason. He was under 40% on throws less than 10 yards in the air last season.
He does stand tall in the pocket and he does have a strong arm he just takes way too long to decide where to go with the ball and then usually misses the target. He's young and he'll get better but right now we're talking about a guy who never got to even 200 yards in a game last year and was 15-37 for 156 against Denver in a game we WON 43-13. People saying well he won 2 of his starts are sort of glossing over the facts. He was 26-62 in those 2 wins, 349 yards no TD's 1 pick. It's not like he actually won those games we won because of defense and running the ball, Hightower 150 yards against Denver and we had 3 picks and 3 fumble recoveries. Washington had a picksix, Jay Feely had a TD run.
Against Dallas 2 picks and a fumble recovery, the first 2 TD's were a picksix by DRC and a picksix by Toler. Skelton had a 74 yard TD pass to Roberts on a completely busted coverage the CB fell down tried to grab Roberts and Andre was totally free until a safety came over and missed the tackle.
I will give Skelton this on a huge 4th down play late he hit Fitz for a big first down that started the winning FG drive. Later a huge play to Komar. This season when we've needed that from Kolb he hasn't done it, Skelton did it last year in that one instance.
But I think if you give Kolb 6 turnovers a defensive TD and a score by the FG kicker he's probably capable of winning a game too.
