Wait, K9 had manlove for Whiz?

K9 didn't really express how pimp this defense was until it got dismantled, and we let guys go that money doesn't explain. I see a tank with a big smilie face on it, my thinking is they aren't all about winning this year, and they plan to come hard in 2014. K9's already asking why we should go watch a season like that this year, and how will it improve us next year...if I got it right. :D

Gotta be better unless you like the same old status quo. Don't know if his plan will work, but he obviously has a plan and is going to make whatever changes it takes to put it into effect. Just what I want.....someone to give it his best shot instead of the same old same old.

Seriously, how can anyone not love Whis for what he did from 2007-2010? I'll always support the dude, despite his mistakes. Nobody is perfect, but he was able to come in and win and get us to the big dance. Don't care who's guys he used--every coach is using someone else's guys. Hell, Billichik is using one of ours this coming year. That's like saying Phil Jackson doesn't deserve any credit because he inherited Jordan from Doug Collins, Shaq from someone else etc etc. Its laughable.

I support the new coach and staff because I'm a Cardinal fan first and always.

K-9, I just can't understand your obvious disgust with this Staff and FO, just as I never understood your man-love for Whiz.

This group more than likely has made our run defense much better than the 28th that we finished last year. They have certainly made our starting CB's considerably better than last year, plus we now have a decent #3 CB in Powers who can help on plays with multiple receivers, and we still have Fleming as a #4. We now have an improved line backing corps after signing both Brinkley and Alexander, (though he is primarily a ST'r he can still thump in a rotation with Brinkley when he needs a breather. Bringing in Shaunessy is a big plus for the run game also, plus he is an example for the locker room just as Alexander is.

That said Bell is workable at safety, (though he is injured 20% of the time). That is still OK for short term and they always said that they were going to go after O-line and Safety help in this draft which is deep in both. Meanwhile, I look for Rashad Johnson to become a solid starter this year, much quicker and younger than Wilson, and maybe a replacement for Rhodes, (though not yet as savvy). Remember, though Rhodes excelled against Philadelphia, he had some poor games too. I believe we put his 6 million to good use. We also have Stanton and Mendenhall on the offense, both of which are durable and serviceable. Mendenhall is an upgrade over Beanie any way you shake it, (head case or no). We might be able to ride Stanton, Hoyer, and a Rookie through the season, as ANY productivity on offense will be a plus.

I can't imagine how many hours the scouts, FO, and staff spent pouring through and studying players, getting them interviewed, tested, worked out, and signed in as short a time as they did. If you cannot tip your hat to that, I will simply tune you out as irrelevant, and enjoy what transpires with this team without any concern for your unwarranted negative bias.

Writes a poster who defended CKW tooth and nail. I'm confused. As usual.

With Wiz and Graves you could armchair QB because we saw them make the same stupid mistakes over and over again. With Keim and BA we don't have a body of work to judge and have to give them the benefit of the doubt for now. IMO anyway.

That's about the only thing that makes sense. I just wish I didn't know any Cardinals history because every time they've made major changes to their roster it has resulted in disaster. (But then most seasons for the Cardinals have been a disaster.)

'94 with Buddy Ryan. '95 was horrible. After '99 - 2000 they were 3-13. After 2002 - finished DAL in points scored and points allowed in 2003. CKW didn't make wholesale changes when he came in and took that veteran team to the SB. Then when he did make wholesale changes after 2009 the bottom fell out. Maybe this time it will work. We'll see.

Now where did I put that Kool-Aid?

why do you think the D could be better?

I'm not sold on the D being better either. Losing Rhodes is a tough pill to swallow. Picking up Bell doesn't put my mind at ease. Losing Horton stings badly and Bowles doesn't put my mind at ease.

Having said that the CB's have been upgraded and possibly SILB as well. Still need help at OLBer.

why do you think those two guys will make that locker-room a disaster? Neither of them are problem children. AP said he felt like he got kicked in the stomach when he heard Harvin was gone. Doesn't sound like he's a divisive figure. And I've never heard much about Avril.

IIRC Harvin was at odds with Frazier who is a players coach so that supports he is a problem child.

I think we got stronger at CB and considerably weaker at S. I can't fathom how Rhodes for Bell is a wash in any way shape or form and while AW isn't anything close to the player he used to be, he's still better then Johnson IMO.

Well Horton is the one who started giving Johnson playing time over Adub so maybe he is an upgrade.

how is he a premadonna?

all players want to get paid. And the Lions are a horror show of a franchise. Them letting someone go is proof positive of very little IMO.

Yeah, I'm not sold on the Seahawks locker room is going to fall apart thing either. I use to believe that all the Cards needed was decent QB play to be a contender but with what the 49ers and Seahawks have done that isn't the case anymore.

Back to the OP. I wasn't one who was jumping off the ledge after day one of FA. I'm very pleased with how quickly and cap wise Keim has been. I'm not surprised as much as reassured thus far.

Of course this is all still up in the air until we see the draft and how the team performs this year.

I am encouraged. I like to think that Arians and his many assistants have carefully research the various player's performance and are making moves accordingly. Of course the critical question will be whether they are able to put together good offense and defense strategies and can execute them. MOre to come with the draft.

I feel much better.

We are ridding ourselves of high paid players for moderate paid players who have something to prove. We were 5/11 last year people! I am glad to see the "new" administration has a set of balls.

They have a plan and apparently feel pretty confident in what they are doing. It is the perfect time to clean house and get our cap under control. We are not going to challenge the Seahawks and 49ers'. We are not the 2008 team that went to the big dance.

We are not a qb away from competing with the big boys. Qb situation is a mess. RB situation is a mess. Have we greatly upgraded those positions? Hardly, but it's a whole lot better that playing it conservatively and believing standing pat was going to be the answer and the Beanie Wells and Kevin Kolbs on this roster were going to suddenly blossom.

It's becoming more and more obvious just how poorly we were managed. I wonder if Whiz and Graves had not been fired where we would be right now.

I'm not happy that we are forced to take a step back. I also believe this may be painful to watch this year. However, it is not nearly as painful as it would have been watching a replay of last year with the same underachievers and pathetic personel decisions.

Unless Arians is a total miracle worker, we will probably lose more games this year. But this time next year we will one one of the teams that will have cap space and some extra picks heading into the draft.

I'm optimistic but going thru a crap season doesn't bother cause it's necessary. We'll have great draft position and money to spend. Mmmmhmmmm kool-aid ;)

Same to me. They haven't done anything earth shattering either way to make me change my opinion.

Now if they could pull an Elvis Dumervil or Jake Long, then my opinion would change.

This isnt Madden we dont have the money for either and the Rams OL was just as bad as ours and they dont want to offer him a big contract due to health concerns.

The Cards do have the money if they want to structure a contract to fit under the cap and where did you get the Rams had health concerns? It sounds like speculation on your part.

All we know is he left St.Louis without a contract.

Read my Salary cap thread we have about 4m left after the rookie pool is taken out. Do you see us getting any of them for under 4m? Dont think so.

http://www.overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Cardinals&Year=2013

There is the link you do the math as 4 FA contracts arent included in their numbers yet. That site has us at about 17m take out 7m on the four contracts for saughnessy,Brinkley,Cason, and Alexander and the 6 for the rookie pool that leaves you 4m and no money for a top guy.

It can easily be done. As has been pointed out, Joe Flacco just signed a 120 mill contract and his cap hit is 6 mill this year.

I still feel the same except for being mad about Adrian Wilson. I criticized him a lot previously but once they extended him and he stayed to the point of being an icon I wanted to see him become the first star Cardinal draft pick since Eric Hill to voluntarily retire a Cardinal. But that's done with.

We still have 8 of our draft picks as starters on defense, 5 of them drafted in the last 3 years. Plus Campbell won't be 27 until Sept. Cason offsets Gay and continues the tradition of a CB a year started back when Aeneas Williams left after the 2000 season so no big deal there. (Hard to believe the Cards haven't had the same two guys start at CB in consecutive years since Aeneas and Tom Knight '99-00.)

As for the offense? Well, unless Arians can work a miracle with Stanton it will still be a problem because nothing much has changed on that side of the ball.

Remember that Hill was allowed to leave and he actually finished his career with the Rams. He signed one of those one day contracts so he could technically finish as a Cardinal. Wilson could very well do the same.

I know about Hill that's why I threw him in as a reference because I knew if I put ADub as the first Arizona player to retire a Cardinal some smart guy would have brought him up. :D

I hope Wilson does that and not what Dierdorf did at the HOF ceremony. I wonder how Dan would have acted had the HOF ceremony come at the end of 2008 instead of the beginning? Oh well he was a St.Louis guy so....

Aeneas has come back to the fold so there is hope we can see ADub enshrined in the Ring of Honor someday.

Flacco just helped them win a SB. We're no where near those heights here. No sense in back loading now. None. :trout:
That wasn't my point. I was just saying, if they wanyed someone, they could make it work. The way they are doing contracts this year, I doubt they sign anyone to a backloaded deal. I don't blame them either.

I already had good vibes about the new regime. This is a group that has a plan and executes it. Most of the players they target, they sign at a reasonable price.

The key to the Cardinals success will hinge on the draft and the quality of the coaching staff, not free agency IMO. I do have some concerns about the new D.C. But I believe that overall, the offensive coaching will be much improved and I'm starting to think special teams will also be improved.

What happens in the draft will be much more important than what happens in free agency IMO. Those are players who can play for reasonable amounts for four years. They will play a larger part in whether the Cardinals can catch Seattle and San Francisco.

Regarding free agency, the fact that players seem to want to play for B.A. is a positive IMO. Rashard Mendenhall picks Arizona over Denver and Miami. Antoine Cason takes less to play in Arizona over Jacksonville. Drew Stanton picks the Cardinals over other suitors. Jasper Brinkley picks us over the Gianst. All that is positive. Two of those players are already familiar with B.A.'s system. That is helpful going into the offseason program.
