What Jeff Blake Said!

Blake could have signed with the Redskins but took a little less money to play with the Ravens because he didn't like the "vibes" re: playing with Spurrier et al. He only signed for one year because he was about showing Offensive Coordinators that his foot was healed and he was going to be the Jeff Blake who revived New Orleans. There was talk in Baltimore that he was going to be a "mentor" for Chris Redman. Blake who thought of himself as a "full time" quarterback talent would hear nothing about being a quasi coach for the younger player. What he said was "I'm not here to be a mentor to anybody. If somebody ASKS me to SHOW them something I will" (Baltimore Sun newspaper)

Cracks me up every time I think about the idea of someone being asked to "coach" or train their replacement. How would you respond if your boss came to you on Monday and said:
"Here's a new kid we just hired. We know he's got no experience, but he's better than you. So you see, we'd rather he worked here than you. Teach him everything you know over the next few months. We need him to learn the job fast so we can get rid of you."

I think under the circumstances Blake's response was a lot more diplomatic than anything I would have said.

What is it about Stewart you would have like in a Cards uniform? He is plain and siimply a darker version of Jake Plummer IMO!

I think Stewart's scrambling ability is a legit weapon in the nfl. Plummer could hurt you with his elusiveness, but he's not a threat that teams must plan for, IMO.

Scrambling ability is nice. But I think Kordells bone headed mistakes on the field more then make up for his occasional spectacular play!

The guy may win a game for you but then turn around and lose 3 for you as well he is way to inconsistent that is one reason I prefer Blake to him you know what your going to get whereas with Kordell its a toss of the coin from game to game!

In all honesty, I never paid much attention to Blake before he joined the Cards. My impression of him has always been of a "C" type quarterback. But I'm looking forward to learning about him.

I'm excited about Blake, I think he's going to be good. We won't miss Plummer one bit (would we anyway?)

I have liked Blake for a long time and he does well in the right situation and when healthy. IMO, he revived the Saints only to lose the job to Brooks, who is also an excellent QB. I think Blake still has the talent to help this team win more than 5 or 6 games this year. I would like to see Darnay Scott come in as they have history and he could be the veteran that may help the younger WRs develop. I don't like having nothing but essentially rookie WRs. We need a veteran, period!!

Blake has been, at times, a very good QB. He got a raw deal in NO. He had played pretty good before he was injured. He also got a raw deal in Baltimore. Anyone who knows anything about Brian "Big Brain" Billick, knows the guy thinks he is an offensive genius and a QB guru. He had to sculpt a young guy so everyone knew it was "his" genius at work. That young guy was Chris Redmond. In case you haven't heard, they just drafted Kyle Boller. Jeff was smart to walk.

I have followed Blake since his Cincinnati days. Always liked him as a QB. I have a starnge feeling we have landed the next Rich Gannon in that we now have a veteran QB who has learned the game to the extent that he will step up to the next level and be amoung the elite of the league. Getting Darney Scott may not be a bad proposition given Blake and Scott have a long history together.
