I agree, I only like the Beasley signing because he has more than enough talent to overachieve on his contract and is only 23.

Dragic and Gordon is just stupid. They are comitting way too much money into a starting backcourt that doesn't even have an allstar quality player while our frontcourt is pathetic.

yes, except I probably hate the Beasley signing even more that neither of the other two. We have already have Dudley and Childress. I'll be surprised if Beasley is movable after this season.

I'll be shocked if he isn't movable. I expect at least 17 ppg 6 rpg from Beasley. Beasley is only 23 and far from finished product. He already had stretches of 2 months when he averaged 24 ppg 7rpg on 47%FG until he injured his ankle.

Imo Beasley is by far the best value contract so far given out.

3yrs/18M$ is nothing. Landry Fields got more than that.

I am only afraid that Beasley will have to play PF for us because Gentry wants to win more than anything and putting our most talented lineup on the floor it would be Gortat/Beasley/Dudley/Gordon/Dragic.. heck they might even go smaller than that if Marshall runs the break well.

I love Eric Gordon as a player when he can stay healthy. With the Suns I think the chances of staying healthy improve. Is he worth the money? Who knows? I like the signing regardless.

I always liked Dragic for is defense. His offense was always hot and cold. Hopefully he can develop some consistency there. The contract seems fair.

Beasley is a pretty low risk pickup. I haven't seen much of him but he appears to have NBA talent he just needs his head on straight.

I am just really not sure what people expect. Some want to get Dwight Howard and others seem to want to lose on purpose. Trading Nash to the Lakers had me feeling gutted yesterday but as a basketball decision it was a logical one. To get something for a 38 year old UFA is great and what they got seems better than other possible scenarios . I think this front office has made solid moves.

The major problem is that in order to get back to a 50 win team we still need a franchise player.

We would have to get Anthony Davis.

Gortat/Loprz
Davis/Morris/Frye
Beasley/??
Gordon/Dudley
Dragic/Marshall/Telfair

That looks like a future contender at least. But take Anthony Davis off of that team and that looks like a mediocre NBA team comparable to everyone else who doesn't have an allstar caliber player.

The important question is can this team suck hard enough in the next 2 years to get in a position to get that missing key player in the draft? Or are they taking things to fast and will end up late in the lottery like the last 4 years...

What I have a problem with more than each individual signing is the overall philosophy. I guess I've allowed everybody here to convince me that we needed to bottom out in order to build a contender. I finally accept that philosophy and so many of you are now perfectly okay with eating up all the precious salary cap space with overpaid, mediocre players who will keep us from top-five draft picks.

This front office has no direction. They just threw away all flexibility with three guys who will not have positive value at the end of next season.

Joe

completely agreed. we're going to be the freaking Detroit Pistons.

I find all three of these signings as troubling...

Dragic - Four years, up to $34 Million - and we gave up a First Rounder for this guy... That is a lot for an 'established' PG that shows flashes of brilliance, and flashes of stupidity on back to back plays. Also, am I the only one that thinks $8M per year is a lot for a player that will never be an All-Star?

Beasley - $6M per is easier to swallow that what we are paying Dragic... and considering that he should be much more productive than Childress, this $6M seems to be a bargin. But here in lies the problem - I think this signing is good based on the crap currently on the roster...

Gordon - It won't happen, so I'm not thinking about it too much. If it did happen, he would need to become incredible to justify a max deal. I believe Max deals are only justified with CURRENT All-Stars that stand over 6'8" and guards named Kobe Bryant. Everyone else is just not capable of bringing championship banners. They might score points, but that can't beat other great teams by themselves. Gordon isn't an All-Star, and he certainly isn't Kobe. Bad signing (but it won't happen, NO will match).

Dragic. Love the signing. He is finally producing consistently. He will thrive out from under the shadow of Nash. Love the fact that this mgmt team is willing to admit their mistake and not let it hinder future decisions. I do think it is bad news for Marshall. He probably needs to be traded.

.

I assume a s&t with NO is in order. Curious to see what we send. My tendency would be to say "no" to the s&t and have Mayo ready to go as plan b. Mayo would fit nicely with what we have right now.

Your not serious about Marshall?! He'll be the steadying force the times Dragic is way out of control. If Telfair continues to improve I can see Dragic as insurance if Gordon goes out. 2 guard probably fits him better any way. He could always be used as a swing guard. I actually like him coming off the bench better anyway and infusing some lightning there. I'd personally start Marshall at PG.

I think it's even worse than that... the Pistons are bad enough to get high draft picks... we'll be mediocre enough to keep picking in the 10-14 range.

We got younger with these signings, but we took a step sideways and maybe even a step back as well. I'm hoping Gordon gets matched by NO because, at best, he's a borderline all-star when healthy & not worth a max deal (maybe $10-11 mil). The Suns had to overpay him just to try to get NO not to match and that's not a good position to be in when you're team won't make the playoffs even if you get Eric Gordon.

Part of the reason Dragic came back was because he was guaranteed the starting role. He played much better in Houston last season when he was starting after Lowry went down with injuries.

Marshall struggles with defense & speed & hasn't even played an NBA game yet... there's no way he should start over another young guy that showed last season that he can do the job & do it well & play on both ends of the court.

+1
Whats wrong with drafting a PG (who the Suns claimed was the BPA) and positioning him behind a better player like Dragic for a few years?

Personally i didn't like the pick and feel like he wont amount to much.
PG's that cant shoot, finish or play defense don't intrigue me.....so i think grooming him along as a backup is ideal at this point.

Signing Dragic does make that Marshall pick a head scratcher....or the other way around, depending on your POV. I like Goran alot.
