What Sunday's game meant....to me

I know some of you are dissapointed that we lost the first pick. That's fine, it's your right....and I was wrong for the way I lashed out, I still don't feel it's what a fan should do, but you have that right.


Now what this game meant to me was REAL hard to describe. I go to that stadium every week, I've witnessed some real bad years and games. I've seen a Cardinals team that would just give up and pack it in, and then I've seen what I saw Sunday.

Like I said, it's hard to describe, but I pay good money to go to the games, I sit with mainly fans of the opposition and listen to their ridicule and jokes week in and week out. I see fights, people treating each other like garbage and an arrogance that no person should have........all in OUR HOUSE.

It wears on you.....it really does....those that put up with the same **** know exactly what I mean. So when I decided to go see my 3-12 team play a pretty meaningless game to them against an opponent that had everything in the world to play for....well I wasn't sure what to expect. Seeing the team rally around each other...and NOT give up(which would have been the easy fast way to their 6 month vacation) inspired me as a fan and made me damn proud to be a fan of the Arizona Cardinals. It was some vindication for what I and many others put up with week in and week out here.

Not even sure if I explained this right, but I got too defensive afterwards.....so just wanted to shed a little light.

Let's just all hope as fans that we get the right coach and we draft who we WANT to draft this year. Let's turn this thing around.

AMEN brother card trader. Those same feelings were in the back of my mind as a cards fan at the bar I attend and I jumped up and high fived each other when we scored.

On the way home I got too worked up about the draft. It will turn out to be just fine!

I think the front office is really committed to winning.

On a side note there were a ton of vikings and pack fans in the bar (mostly pack) and the cardinals chant they started was awesome!

Oh, and btw, for those of you who haven't experienced it.....there aren't many greater feelings than watching half a stadium of opposing fans walking out with the "what the hell just happened" look on thier faces.


One thing I'll miss once the stadium fills up with Cardinal red. But I'll take Cardinal red any day of the week.

the post is appreciated and we all know what you're saying. I mean even as I was walking out to the parking lot I turned to some Viking fans and yelled at them for ruining our future - one of them turned around and said the Cards never had a future - to which I gleefully replied - Well, we sure f*cked up your present! Happy New Year" - The guy literally wanted to kill me - that felt good.

Here's to next year - when hopefully this franchise gets the team moving in the right direction and the end of the season arguments are about who we want to play in the playoffs instead of losing or winning games!

Its bittersweet. It means a lot, but at the same time it means a little.

By no means did I ever want the team to tank the game. But I wanted them to play a normal game as per this season. One thing that made me upset other than the beeline for Eli that we would have taken (I'm one of the few here not entranced with Ben), is that this team came to play in this game, and willed a win out of the thin air. But they didn't do that in 12 other games this season...and that sucks. To see what they are capable of (watching the Green Bay game was a thrill, as was the Viking game) and then watch them get destroyed by Cleveland, well...that only added to the bitter feeling.

Am I happy they won? Yes. Am I sad they won? Yes. And that's fine, or at least it should be. Some of us have different desires for the team...and that's cool because we are all fans. A lot of crazy vitriolic talk came out on the board following that win, and a lot of people called a lot of people a lot of things. In the end, we're all fans of the team, and regardless whether we agree, we all want to see the team succeed.

I am in row 2 Sec 224 and sure was fun telling the pruple to have a good off season. One of the most thrilling finishes I have seen.

No draft position is worth dealing with 30K more-than-happy-to-rub-it-in-your-face fans.

One of the QB's, dare I say probably both will be available at #3.

Not that it matters. I think we should trade down a couple of spots, get an extra second rounder and take Sean Taylor, the Anquan of Defense.

All game long these Vike fans two rows in front, laughed and pointed and yelled insults to Preston Parsons mother. All game long I listened and my wife saw me steaming and ready. A fan came up to them and said calm down now and they didn't, this is in my house. I don't care if we get low drafts or no drafts to win in my house when 35K uninvited are busting up my party, I hate it. To win and walk out to my car with my family and have nobody in my face is worth all the picks in the draft. Someday it will be our house for real and these kinds of fans wont be able to buy scalper tickets for half price. I live foir that day.

Great post Card Trader.

Only once (Seattle) did we get blasted at home. It was relatively easy to walk out of the stadium this season after games.

As a season ticket holder, I paid for and saw 10 games. I got 6 wins in 10 games and the losses were the 38-0 drubbing by Seattle, a loss to Baltimore in a game we controlled at the half and should have closed out, a close loss in OT to the Rams and a close loss in the final minute to Carolina.

Even though they don't matter in the record books, we won both our home preseason games. Then we went 4-4 in the regular season. Beating the Vikes was the greatest because of the way it unfolded, but beating the Pack was awesome, listening to them talk all game and then want to shake our hands when we beat them (which was pretty classy by most), beating the up-and-coming Bengals who were the talk of the league at the time was sweet, and of course knocking Minnie out of the playoffs was just awesome...getting to say "Welcome to the postseason!" to all the hordes of purple flooding out of the stadium like cockroaches.

Beating the niners, when they were just coming off what was probably their best game of the year, destroying Tampa. Everybody and their dog seemed expecting them to go ballistic on the Cards.

I was thinking of all you guys throughout the entire game. All I heard it seemed was cheers for the Vikings. Saw tons of jackasses in purple gear. Said to my brother, "You wouldn't know this was SDS."

I felt bad for you guys, knowing that you were all probably dealing with a lot of BS from the opposing fans. I was thrilled that the Cards won and you were all able to walk out of the stadium with smiles on your faces. It was as it should be!

Nate Poole at the end, yelling to Vikings fans: "GO HOME! YEAH, YOU CAN GO HOME NOW!" was hilarious.

I don't think we were alone in getting really tired of the opposing fans.

It was a shocker the way that play happened with the 00 showing on the clock. One of the most exciting finishes I have seen. It was a good feeling walking out with a big smile!!

You know, it was crazy. The score was 17-6 and I was thinking win vs draft position, as the game appeared to be lost. I was preparing for said loss while being consoled by the ghost of future Cardinals #1 draft pick. I figured, Green Bay will lose, we'll lose, and we'll win the #1 pick in the draft. But alas, it became clear during the game that Green Bay actually needed us. Oh, crap, I thought. They NEED us to win. Oh, crap. We can take another loss, but OTHERS? They couldn't handle it. Thinking back on it, Berman would have been all over our butts on Sunday Night Countdown as well, saying, 'and it would all be up to Arizona if Favre and the Pack are going to go to the playoffs...and we all know, don't pin your hopes on Arizona winning....and they didn't disappoint--unless you're Brett Favre and the Packers'. Anyway, I was actually praying for us to win--for Brett Favre and the fans of the Packers! Unbelievable! On the last two drives my eyes became--well, let's say, a little wet....Um, uh, yeah that's it. I've never gotten misty eyed while watching a game in my life. Till then. That was the best two minutes in my life. An onsides kick that goes RIGHT to Damian Anderson! Could it have went any better? And, with all the publicity surrounding that game it was actually great for the Cardinals. Forget #1 draft pick. For that publicity, we can pick third. They even mentioned it during one of the bowl games on Wednesday night. People at work were talking about it. Doctors at lunch were discussing the game while sitting in St. Louis...not Phoenix or Tempe..and me a Cardinals fan sitting 10 feet away loving every word. My coworkers were commenting on how I couldn't get the smile off my face. How in the world could Gambo actually write the piece he wrote for the Republic blasting us for WINNING a football game? And a dramatic one at that. One that everyone's talking about. Levitra play of the week for goodness sakes. I will take all of that over the #1 pick in the draft.
