Just going by pictures of the preaseason games, Chad Ford's opinion and what has been said in other articles I think that's pretty good sources.

it doesnt matter what kind of shape walker is in.

The mavs were offered something to good to pass up. They got rid of a horrible contract, a player who saw limited time and had problems competing with the west bodies.

They got an allstar, who can play as much as they want him to. His contract is almost up. He can be retraded with one of their BAZILLION allstars for something they do need.

The celts were not going to pay walker. Raef may actually do better in the east, well he will do better, just hopefully by a lot.

Personally though, I think Ainge would have been better off either waiting for a better deal, or letting walker leave and take his cap room.

I am sorry, but this trade is like us sending Penny Hardaway to Minny for KG before he signed his extension. We dont need him, but like hell we aren't going to get rid of a horrible contract and an often injured player for an Allstar with an expiring deal...........

Actually it's more like the Phoenix Suns trading Penny Hardaway for Antoine Walker. Anyone think that wouldn't be a good deal?

Edit: OK, I definitely exaggerated there. Raef LaFrentz has a terrible contract, but he's worth more than Penny Hardaway because of his size and versatility. That was a poor comparison, and I apologize.

Antoine Walker may be overrated. He shot extremely poorly last season. However he is a good rebounder, one of the best ballhandling big men in the NBA, and he's a good passer. He should play small forward for Dallas which means he will be able to back down many of his defenders.

I think that would work more in our favor than the current trade does in Dallas' favor. I dislike Antoine Walker, but from a financial standpoint, that trade would be a home run for us.

a bit late to the table but i can't see who raped who in this trade - it seems like both teams did okay out of it.

From bostons' side i guess they must figure that Vin is going to return to some kind of form. Raef should do pretty well out east, so his contract may be more justified than it was here in the west. Plus they get a draft pick. Funniest thing though is that Boston fans are now looking for a swingman/ good 2 - they're wondering why they traded JJ to us. They finally realised...

As for dallas, they get a guy who fits with their philosophy of scoring. Delk also fits that category. They lose a huge contract and can trade/waive Walker if he demands to much when his contract runs out.

Good move from both teams.

I bet Ainge signs DerMarr soon. Now that is a place where he would get a real opportunity.

Let's forget about contracts for a while. Let's say both of them make an average of $13M for three years. Would you do this trade then?

If the salary situations were the same, I would probably prefer Walker to Hardaway, but only because I know the Suns will use Stoudemire at center anyway. And even then it would be close.

Why? What's the point? This is as ridiculous as the theoretical trades from RealGM.

Who would you prefer? Kevin Garnett or Christian Laettner--say both of them average 13m for 3 years.

Come on Chap, relax. If you don't like the question don't answer it. I think this is a legitimate question- money issue aside, who would you rather have on your team- Walker or Hardaway.

If you don't want to answer, then don't.

Ok, sorry. I'm cool. It just seemed since you quoted me, you directed the question to me.

Money issues aside, I'm not sure who I would take. That's why money issues are so important, I guess.

Warning: Heavy sarcasm-

You'd acctually take KG over Laettner?

You don't know anythign about basketball, do you?:p

On a serious note, Chap, the question wasn't directed towards you. You just brought up a very good point (financial aspect), and I decided to see what people thought about Hardaway for Walker without considering their contracts, which, I admit is useless, but it's interesting.
