Vanderbilt baseball lost 9-0 to Arkansas on Friday night to open the three-game series, its first time giving up more than eight runs this season, its first home loss and its first shutout.
To add insult to injury, a familiar face did most of the damage for the Razorbacks: Cam Kozeal, who played for the Commodores his freshman season in 2024 but transferred to Arkansas in the offseason. He went 3-for-5 on Friday, with two home runs and five RBIs.
Both of his home runs came off JD Thompson, in the fourth and sixth innings. Thompson pitched six innings and allowed five runs, with two walks and six strikeouts.
"Good two-strike hitting," Vanderbilt coach Tim Corbin said. "And he sat on a couple of fastballs that weren't located well, and he hit them hard."

Kozeal's transfer is a rarity for Vanderbilt, which does not typically lose starters to the portal. In 2024, he appeared in 43 games, starting 35 of them, and hit .284 with five home runs. The only other player since 2021 to transfer to another Division I school after starting at least 20 games for the Commodores was Parker Noland, who went to South Carolina as a graduate student transfer after the 2023 season.
