Seals-Jones must improve his blocking to become a starting TE for us. Especially with DJ expected to carry our offense, we must be able to set the edge in the run game.

True but unlike Arians' offense, TE has become a glorified WR anyways

Harry and everyone---

I am still trying to wrap my head around McCoy as OC...which veteran FA QBs or trade targets do you think would fit McCoy's system and personality the best? Which draft pick QBs?

My guess:

UFAs: Kirk Cousins or Sam Bradford

Trade: Alex Smith or Nick Folk

Draft: Mason Rudolph or Luke Falk or Mike White

Mitch, the most important constant with McCoy’s offensive philosophy is that he tries to build the system around his players. He has had several different systems depending on the quarterback and offensive personnel. When he had Tim Tebow as his quarterback he ran a run heavy offense that led the league in rushing yards. When Peyton Manning was his quarterback he ran a pass first offense that broke multiple passing records. When he was in San Diego they ran a quick passing offense, yet McCoy didn’t call plays.

Prior to last season McCoy was quoted saying that his vision for the Broncos’ offense was that it was flexible, so that it could have a few changes each week depending on the opponent. Because of that, I don’t really think we can figure out which quarterback will best suit McCoy’s tendencies.

From what I have been able to gather from various articles, he is not a big personality in the sense that he doesn’t use a lot of big words, he doesn’t show a lot of enthusiasm, he doesn’t often use sarcasm or irony when he talks and in general he seems very even-keeled.

Personally, I think if the Cardinals has any shot of trading for Alex Smith, they should consider it carefully. To me, Alex Smith has a lot of the same mentality as McCoy, and I think Smith would be a good fit to optimize the talent the Cardinals has on offense. I think Fitzgerald and David Johnson are the two most dangerous players, and Alex Smith has always been good on short to intermediate plays which I think should suit the playing style of both Fitzgerald and Johnson, if Fitzgerald wants to come back of course. Maybe you can even throw in Jermaine Gresham and Ricky Seals-Jones.

Actually, I don’t think trading for Smith would rule out the idea of taking a quarterback in the first round. I have a friend who is a huge Bears-fan, and he told me that he thinks the Bears primarily signed quarterback Mike Glennon last year to trick other teams into thinking there was no way the Bears would consider drafting Mitch Trubisky. Now, the Chiefs might simply release Alex Smith, and if so it would most likely change the salary cap-ramification from signing Smith significantly since the competition would probably be bigger but if it is possible to obtain him through a trade, I think the salary cap-numbers would be at a level where they could realistically consider doing what the Bears supposedly did.

When there's a coaching change, you hope that there isn't a total overhaul of offensive and defensive systems, but instead, the new system building off the existing system and improving it. (That way, your players don't have to learn entirely new ways of doing things).

I'm not sure that's what's happening with McCoy (who seems to believe in system-flexibility based on existing talent and matchups).

I was kind of hoping that McCoy's offense would involve tweaking BA's offense. Not likely. Looks like a whole new ballgame. Hope it works.

our offense needs an overhaul Jeff...at the very least if we dont seriously address the blocking we need a mobile QB and a quick hitting WC style offense.

I am one who thinks we have more oline talent than it appears on the field...maybe the coaching change alone can make strides in improving the line... but we still need a center.
