Looking for a Lost replacement and I'm wanting to try out some of these older series before getting into some of the new ones this fall. Which one do you think I should watch?

Breaking Bad is great, but Dexter is a lot more fun I think.

I'm also a big fan of Smallville.

Mad Men was just okay, I thought. I quit a couple of eps into seaon 2.

I'm going to start Supernatural myself in the next few weeks.

If you are able to get the DVDs I would say Breaking Bad, though if you are going to watch a show live as it airs then Mad Men would be it since it starts again in July. They left the third season off in a good place to jump in blind. One series I would add to that list would be Treme on HBO. I am pretty sure it is On Demand if you have it.

Of the brand new shows starting this summer the first show I am looking forward to is the return of Futurama to Comedy Central. Hopefully they have the same style they did back on Fox. That was my second favorite cartoon, only South Park was better. Also, AMC has a new show starting up in late July called Rubicon which is supposed to be a political thriller. With the quality of shows AMC has been putting out I will venture to guess this will be better than most new shows.

1. Supernatural

2. Breaking Bad
3. Dexter
4. Mad Men

---------------------

Supernatural is great tv. Perfect blend of comedy, horror, action, and drama. The Winchesters and their fate is enthralling. Five seasons of excellent tv IMO. A lot of tv shows should use this series as a boiler plate of how to advance a series and its storylines.

Dexter is good if you want to watch the same season over and over. Mad Men is excellent if you want to watch a show where nothing happens but you are completely involved in the stories of Peggy and Draper.

Smallville is hokey fun.

Breaking Bad's first 2 seasons were some of the best on tv in recent years.

I haven't seen any of these, but I listened to a podcast interview with a character from Breaking Bad recently and I'm sold. I'll be starting this after I finish Carnivale.

Voted for the top three...and someone above says Mad Men is just "okay" ...WOW, it's seriously just as good as anything else on TV, including Dexter and Breaking Bad. It's brilliant...the writing is unbelievably good.

I'd go with Supernatural. It's a great show and will keep you occupied throughout the entire summer.

Dexter is also really good, but you can get through Dexter pretty quickly since it's not so many episodes.

So it's Supernatural for the whole summer, or Dexter/Mad Men/Breaking Bad over the same time period.

I show I like a lot that no one is really talking about - Leverage on TNT.

You would also be well off just concentrating on USA channel shows this summer. Psych, Burn Notice, In Plain Site, and a new one that looks interesting Covert Affairs. Warehouse 13 is another good one about to start up again on sci-fi.

I haven't seen Supernatural or Breaking Bad - but want to check them both out

I love Dexter

Just couldn't get into Mad Men - about the only thing appealing was the "style", but even that seemed over the top and got old real fast .... i think I made it about 4 episode before asking myself "why is this series so popular?!?" and then dropping it

I tried very hard to watch all those shows but couldn't get into them. They're all very 80s kind of dramas.

'80's type dramas'? hunh. Well-written, well-acted, interesting characters... I really like Burn Notice and In Plain Sight. Haven't gotten into Psych at all, and Covert Affairs' trailers haven't caught my interest yet.

I could sort of see that. I tend to gravitate to shows that don't take themselves to serious.

Couple of more I like are Warehouse 13 and Eureka. Just good fun and different shows.

They're given the Rockford Files/Scarecrow & Mrs. King-type treatment. All of them.

I think that's fine, because those were good quality, entertaining shows. But I'm looking for something a little more ... filling.

I know people like Superatural, but I watched the first season of it and it was NOTHING compared to these other tree shows you mention above.

I mean...seriously Chap :)

OK. So June I'm going to rent the entire first seasons of Dexter and Breaking Bad. In July and, I guess, August, I'm going to watch Supernatural.

I watched an episode of Mad Men last night. I love subtlety and nuance, but I'm not sure my attention span is going to be able to tolerate a show that thrives on it. It reminds me of the Office without the irony. Or perhaps the irony is so buried and so witty that my tiny little brain can't compute. But I won't cast full judgment on it for now.
