What has Whiz's role been in the negotiations?

Why would Q be upset with Whiz's role?

Could Whiz have said one or more of the following???:

A. Don't re-sign him.

B. Don't offer him millions in guaranteed $$$...he's a health risk.

C. Don't offer him a deal anywhere close to what Fitz got.

D. Make him play out his contract and then resume negotiations.

E. Don't rework his contract until after this season.

The way Q has termed his relationship with Whiz and the orginization as "irreparable"...it would seem obvious that Q has perceived Whiz as being a deterrent in negotiations, not a catalyst.

Until we know the truth about Whiz's role...we cannot fully understand Q's position, can we?

If Q's true perception is that Whiz is partially responsible for not receiving a new contract, then it would be understandable why Q is so indignant.

However, if Q is using Whiz as a scapegoat in order to try to expedite the trade he's been wanting since the Fitz deal was finalized, then, shame on Q.

None of the beat reporters, Somers or Urban in particular, have clarified what Whiz's supposed role in Q's contract negotiations was...and until we know what really happened (if anything), we cannot fully understand the gist of this situation.

The thing is: can any of you imagine Whiz wanting to stand in the way of Q's getting a new contract?

If anything, one would think that Whiz would want to keep Q happy and in the fold...not the other way around.

Can anyone really imagine Whiz as being a deterrent here?

Does Whiz know something about Q that would have caused him to be a deterrent in contract negotiations?

Answers, anyone?

?

Maybe Whiz feels the money could be spend in other areas of need instead of all that money going into wideout?

I'm sure Whiz is all for a new contract, just not a top five wideout one.

That's reasonable, Ed. But, can you imagine Whiz saying this to Q? Or making this a known stipulation in contract negotiations?

Could Whiz's opinions about what to do with the salary cap and what players should get re-signed have been leaked by a front office person?

I can't imagine Whiz making such opinions known to Q or any of the players.

You are making too much out of this. Whis has already said that Boldin will be taken care at the next opportunity, probably at the end of the year.

Rosenhaus and Boldin would rather go somewhere else and get paid now. The Cardinals aren't going to acquiesce to that.

Part of the problem IMO is that Rosenhaus' clients sign contracts then after a season or three, want to revisit the issue (see Owens in Philly, Walker in Green Bay, Johnson in Cincy, on and on.) I'm sure the Cardinals will do that in time. Their one mistake seems to have been "promising" Q they would do it last offseason.

As for the not paying big money for two receivers, baloney! The felons are paying Whitten and Owens, the Colts paid Harrison and Wayne. If the Cardinals start drafting somewhere outside the top 10, their cap hit for their first-rounders should substanially diminish. That 3 or 4 million per year should help even Rod Graves do more.

Are you in denial, Totally Red?

It doesn't matter at all right now what Whiz says about taking care of Boldin next year.

This year...right now...one of his star players has pointed the finger at him as being one of the main reasons why he wants to be traded. Aren't you the least bit curious as to what Whiz did to incur such "irreparable" acrimony?

Is this merely a smokescreen by Boldin and Rosenhaus?...insult the organization...insult the coach...

These outburst by Boldin appear to be well calculated..the timing of them would suggest that.

If Whiz is culpable in this matter, it would certainly shed some light on why Q is so indignant.

My gut feeling is that Whiz doesn't deserve any of this...

But...rather than jump to that conclusion, I would like to know some answers first...if that's possible.

Wouldn't you?

I think it is ridiculous to jump to any conclusion or assume anything.

We will never get the whole story, and never get a straigh answer on this, just a bunch of opinions and educated guesses.

I would be shocked if Coach Whiz did anything to under cut one of his players, it doesn't seem like he would do that.

But no less than 3 months ago, I would have never guess that Boldin would be acting the way he is.

Wayne and Harrison on yearly average is only making 16 Mill total (Harrison 9.5 Mill, Wayne 6.5 Mill).
Owens and Whitten on yearly average are only making 13 Mill total (Owens 8.5 Mill, Whitten 4.5 Mill).

If Boldin wants his 8 Mill per year that would make his and Fitz contracts a total of 18 Mill a year. Or since we dont have much cap space this season to make Boldins Contract average out to 8 Mill a season we would ahve to heavily back load it which would mean in 2009, 2010, and 2011 we would be spending in excess of 22 Mill on 2 WR's. 6 More million then the next highest duo of Harrison and Wayne. Plus it is up to coach if he wants to spend 22 Mill on 2 WR's or if he would rather spend 15 Mill on 2 WR's and the other 7 Mill on better defense, OL, or running backs, its a matter of coaches philosophy on what he deems more important to spend the money on.

I think the innuendo was that Wiz sat in on the negotiations (which I am more then okay with) and said "just sign the deal" to Q.

Now this is heresay from Boldin (in a Dallas interview) and if it is what Wiz said then I got to wonder the motivation on his part. Can't be a good move but (and mabe I give Wiz too much leash) he has yet to prove to me that he doesn't do anything without calculating the cause and effect. So I am guessing that the reality we should take from this is that Wiz doesn't believe in spending all that cash on what he considers a secondary postion to his offense. See Burress, Plaxico.

Whether he is right or not I have no idea but I am guessing that pissed Boldin off if thats what happened.

Personally I like Wiz being the iron fist for this franchise. IMO he is the first legitimate guy in this role in like.....ever.

I do find it curious that of all the people in the organization -- Whis was picked for scorn

and all we have gotten is that "coaches should coach, they shouldnt get involved in negotiations"

I find it hard to beleive that Q has such deeply held beliefs in organizational structure that the mere act of Whis crossing that line is the reason for his anger.

I dont think he has that deep of a feeling on it considering Green was involved in negotiations without a doubt the first extension that Boldin got. He wasnt talking about Green then. The difference is that a deal got done and a deal didnt get done this time around. It isnt the fact that Wiz is talking with the GM on this topic like he should be doing its the results.

Well, I certainly don’t know the whole story between Whis and Q… that’s for sure.

But one thing I do know is that airing your dirty laundry to any media microphone you can cozy up to just feels wrong.

I guess I’ll never understand how anyone with such affluence can feel so cheated… what a strange, disconnected and unfettered world these athletes live in.

To be honest, I’ve been especially taken aback by this whole deal because up until recently, I assumed Q would continue catering to his earlier demonstrated professionalism, and not lowering himself to this crazy circus he’s whipped up around here lately.

Maybe the whole situation is reparable… maybe it isn’t. But whatever it is, it just plain sucks… no matter how you slice it.

How about none of A to E... and that Q simply thinks that Whis should simply mind his own business. This issue is between Graves, the Bidwill's and Q and his representative. Coaches commenting on contract negotiations is a receipe for trouble in the locker room and by-extension on the field.

Well, Boldin was quoted as saying Whisenhunt told him to "just sign the deal". I'd guess he took offense to that.

If that's the extent of it...Q's scorn is totally unjustified.

The deal reportedly made Q one of the top five highest paid WRs...it just didn't have the guaranteed money he wanted.

That the "they didn't take care of me" part.

Q has had injury problems since he arrived here...and missed quarters of seasons...like last year when he started only 11 games.

The two seasons he played all 16 games, he went to the Pro Bowl...that's two out of five.

My prediciton is that next year Edge is gone, that money is earmarked for Boldin and a young RB is going to be brought in. Now, Q may not be willing to wait, but I think the money will be shifted next year.

If that is true and the deal just lacked gauranteed money, I have to agree with Whiz. Because until this last 2 months the public outlash if they tried to terminate his contract would have been horrible. He was protected by his own image until now.
