Oh, I guess I'll jump in.

At 5-8, 150 lbs I started at center (thats right) on my Jr High team.

I ended up as a 5-8 160 lb (didn't grow an inch) sg in hs. Started my jr and sr years. It was a VERY small hs.

Didn't score much. We had a "shoot first" pg we affectionately called "the black hole".

I had "big man" mentality when I played. I could have been great, I was just a foot too short. :)

This was all back in the 70's which makes me fairly ancient on this board.

Used to play pickup ball at Pierce Park for a while.

6'1" 150lbs guard. I never played in Jr or High school. Just a lot of pick up ball. I feel like I can hold my own on the court in normal pick up games. I seem to be able to play good defense and I can block shots with either hand. It is fun to turn back a guys shot when he is taller then you. I usually get a lot of rebounds because it seem that in John Stockton land a lot of bigger guys would rather play point then post up. Course it is also fun to have a skinny guy posting up while the big guys are playing guard. I started watching BB during the 88 season. KJ was my favorite player and I have been die hard Suns since then. Didn't start playing ball until it was too late for High school. I loved motorcycle riding in High school and that was my first love. Had to turn to basketball when I didn't have enough money to buy motorcycles anymore.

BC, I remember that Holzman team... as a true Celtic fan for years I 'hated' the Knicks but you had to like that team... team basketball at it's best.
Those Celtics were, of course, the Champs.

Gene Conley also pitched for the Braves, if I remember right. Despite his height, he was no Randy Johnson, though.

I followed Bill & KC Jones at USF so when they joined the Celtics I was an even bigger fan. Stayed with them until the Suns were formed... I was living in Phoenix by then.

1954? Wow. Was't Mikan still playing then?

I didn't start watching basketball until later, but I know it seemed like guys worked harder to get good shots. Maybe it was because they weren't as tall and athletic as today's players, but no one won without playing "team" basketball.

Yep, Conley did pitch for the Braves. He pitched for part of one season in the Western Int'l League... I lived a half mile from the Tri-City team ballpark and hung around there in the summers - selling peanuts in the stands when I could. I was subbing for the visiting team batboy when Conley pitched and got him to autograph a ball. I remember when he was called up to the majors... that must have been in '51 or '52. It came as a surprise when I discovered he was playing for the Celts, too... heck, I didn't even know there was such a thing as pro basketball before that game.

I don't recall ever seeing George Mikan play but then it wouldn't have meant anything to me if the announcer didn't talk him up a lot.

Mikan played for the Lakers in the late 40's and early 50's. He was so dominant that oppoents would collapse into a zone and go into a four corners stall. Because of Mikan, the NBA introduced the 24 second clock and the original "illegal defense" rules.

I played all my life but never in any organized leagues. I used to love showing I was as good as some of the varsity players in P.E. same with Football.

I am just under 6' ft around 210 now, but was about 5'10 150 in highschool. Could shoot fairly well and pass and would go on streaks where I couldn't miss, had a little speed as well. Could never go left very well. Now I am out of shape and when I do play, I concentrate on cheap fouls and outside jump shots. :D

6'0 PG that plays Rep for my town

I'm a cross between Jason Williams and.....actually, I'm all J-Will.
Love to throw a behind-the-back, no look, bounce pass...etc.

I don't shoot much. The only shots I do take are layups. (Even then, I usually pass it off coz it looks better)

I'm usually the first of the starters to get benched after a stupid pass. But when it comes off, it's all worth it.

a shade under 6'0 and a (recently) portly 235 lbs. (fattest ever, but not for long).

football was always my real sport, but in college started playing a lot. for a short stocky guy i had some ups (could dunk a volleyball on a good day) - pops was an incredible athlete. intramurals and then rec leagues. still play twice a week in two leagues, but a broken vertebrae and a mess of ankle (broken 5 times) have taken the leap outta me. now i'm like an old charles barkley. i pound the ball, play a little dirty, and occasionally make a play or a pass that astounds everyone 'cuz they can't remember that at one time i was actually a pretty good athlete.

ask cheese about playing high school ball against the deaf school . . .
