Long time Phoenician!
Stan Richards was the Suns PA announcer for decades. He was good, but his age got to be beyond the point of aspiring for a promotion.Islington said:Has anyone else noticed the PA announcer? I sat there a while thinking that something didn't sound right and realized it wasn't Jeff Munn (was that the name of the previous guy?).
He sounds alright but just sounds a little umm .... more like if I were watching a Hollywood movie about NBA. I kept thinking it sounded more like American Anthem that gymnastics movie.
Jeff Munn replaced him, and was just as good, if not better. But he is young and talented, and has already become the D'backs PA announcer, and part-time radio play-by-play (when the Gub'nor moves to TV on weekends, while Thom Brennaman does Fox games).
Some people on the D'backs site disagree with me, but I believe Jeff has the potential to be an outstanding baseball play-by-play man for a long time.
I'm old enough to remember the great Vin Scully when he began with the Dodgers about 55 years ago as a young, raw kid.
I believe that Jeff Munn has the same great sound, and surprisingly good MLB baseball knowledge.
I'd like to see him take over the D'backs radio play-by-play full-time. With the clowns they've been using as radio color commentary, Greg Schulte could do color until he retires.
Anyway, that's why Jeff Munn (who also worked for KTAR) left the Suns PA job. When you're good, you move up.
