If you've been watching the NBA playoffs, you obviously know the upcoming shows coming to TNT's summer line up. Well, it looks like I'm gonna have to TiVo every one of the summer shows on TNT because they all look pretty good!

Dark Blue, Hawthorne, Leverage (watched the first season and LOVED it!), The Closer, Raising the Bar. They all look good, and will provide me something to watch while I'm waiting for Lost and House next season... LOL!

What's everyone else's take on these shows?

Cable networks are starting to figure out how to break the rules. Up until the past few years they've stuck with cut-and-paste kind of dramas, hoping the characters are strong enough to carry them. Rescue Me was the first I noticed where they gave the finger to formulas and took a gamble. The characters on that show are very flawed, the storylines are somewhat unconventional, but they also picked an unconventional lead -- Dennis Leary -- to drive the show.

I'll definitely check some of these out. Cable TV is improving by leaps and bounds.

I'll probably check out these new shows because, well, there just isn't much else to watch during the summer. However, can't television writers create a few more shows about something other than doctors, lawyers, and police? Aren't there any other interesting professions? The fact that I can't come up with any alternatives at 6 AM is telling. I think I would even take another private detective show at this point though.

The alternative would have to offer the ability to have an ensemble cast in occupations that offer high wage earnings, require constant interaction, and the ability to present a lot of drama with ethical challenges.

It's difficult to do that outside of the big three and still expect a mass audience to relate to it.

I have only seen the 1st season of Closer. I thought it was good. Haven't gotten around to buying the rest of the seasons on DVD yet.

Leverage is not about any of those ;) It is about thieves ;)

Sons of Anarchy on FX is a killin' show if you haven't seen it yet.

Any idea when the 2nd season starts?

----------------------------------------

I see the Zack Morris previews for his attorney show but I haven't seen that one yet.

I'm iffy on Dark Blue. TNT had a pretty bad ass cop show (Wanted) that I got into, invested my time, and it wasn't renewed for another season. I'm afraid Dark Blue will be given the same treatment.

Sons starts back up in September, I believe. To me, that was the best new show last year, period...TV, Cable, whatever.

I'll have to check out sons of anarchy and leverage. I can't remember when leverage started, but I know there was some reason I didn't end up watching it.
