The second day of the 2025 NFL draft is upon us, and the New Orleans Saints are hoping to make some noise. They're one of a handful of teams with multiple picks on Day 2, owning a second rounder at No. 40 and two selections in the third round (Nos. 71, 93). But the question is whether they'll stay put. General manager Mickey Loomis is known for trading up in the draft and he didn't do so in Round 1. Could that extra third-round pick start burning a hole in his pocket?
It's tough to say given all of the quarterbacks available. Shedeur Sanders fell out of the first round, joining Jalen Milroe and Tyler Shough as guys who expect to hear their names called on Friday night. If the Saints are as eager to find a new quarterback as all the reporting says they are, Loomis could try to move up from No. 40 to go get one of them. That would certainly line up with his history in the draft.
But he shouldn't. None of those three quarterbacks is appreciably better than the other two, and there's a good chance at least one of them makes it to No. 40. And if all three are taken? Wait and get a QB in the third round who can compete with Spencer Rattler. The NFL has shown us what it thought of this draft class by only picking two passers in the first round. If the value isn't there for the Saints in Round 2, they should wait until it is. There's always next year and they have other problems to address with their second rounder.
On top of that, we should remember that the best Saints draft class in recent memory (2017) happened when they held five picks between Nos. 32 and 103. That's the range where you can find impact players. It's vital they hold onto those picks and get a difference-maker or two. But as we've seen before, Loomis might disagree.
Either way, here's what you need to know to tune in for Day 2 of the 2025 NFL draft.
