Does anyone know if the All-Star game will be coming to Arizona in the near future?

None scheduled. I think the owners are still too po'd at Jerry for having the nerve to actually go out and win the WS instead of settling for the mediocrity that recent All-Star sites (Mil, CWS, Det) strive for.

There is a slim possibility for 2006 because the St. Louis stadium isn't done yet. I was was just reading that it may not be until 2008 or 2009. Some feel the D'backs haven't paid their dues yet.... There are other teams that have been around a lot longer than the D'backs that haven't hosted an All Star game in their new parks....or like the Marlins, haven't hosted it at all

Bud hates Colangelo. Our ballpark is better then his Miller place, our team is much better then his Brewers. It will be a long time until we get one, becaus places that are getting ballparks built are getting them before us. It's ******** because our park is state of the art, but by the time we get a game it will just be the status quo.

They were discussing this on the radio today and said a large part of the reason we won't get one is the heat. Most cities plan related outdoor events, etc. Try doing that when it's 116 out... The ballpark roof can be closed, but what other large outdoor activities could be planned?

Good point. Lots of stuff going on in Chicago besides the game.

It's kind of the opposite of why the NBA/NHL All-Star games as well as the Super Bowl make such good sense here. I don't envision the NHL jerking the Coyotes around once their new arena is open.....too much golf to be played.

Detroit awaits All-Star decision

By Tom Gage / The Detroit News

CHICAGO -- Hold on, Detroit, just a few weeks more.

There were no future All-Star Games announced Tuesday. That means there's still nothing definite beyond next year's game in Houston.

But Commissioner Bud Selig said it will be only a "couple of weeks" before he makes an announcement that he hopes will encompass the next several All-Star Games.

"Everybody wants an All-Star Game," he said. "There's no great rush, but we want to give people time to plan."

That's fine for 2006, 2007 and 2008, but the city that lands the 2005 All-Star Game -- for which Detroit is believed to be the leading candidate -- would like to know as soon as possible. There were those who thought that Tuesday would have been the perfect time to announce the site of the 2005 game, but there's not much that Major League Baseball does perfectly anymore, if indeed it ever did.

Selig gets battered by one barrage of criticism after another during the season, an onslaught he addressed Tuesday.

Well if we hosted the All-Star game in 2006, we might not have any all-stars on the team. Better we wait until 2007 :D

We'd be like the Devil Rays traditionally were and get our one guranteed all star. Wow, that would suck.

Hey there all,

The NL gets the ASG in even years generally and the AL in odd years, so the next oppertunity for us is in 2008.

Major League Baseball is not required to alternate AL and NL cities as All-Star sites, but traditionally does, which is why NL teams were competing for the 2006 game. If the rotation holds in 2007, Anaheim's refurbished park and Tampa Bay would be prime candidates to hold the game.

If only we were still better than the Brewers - Milwaukee has a 15 game lead over us on July 21st...with some of our players. Ouch. I haven't seen Miller yet, but I can't say that I love the BOB. Just an opinion.

Selig mulls changing All-Star Game policy

Baseball might abandon its long-standing policy of alternating All-Star sites between National League and American League cities and award the 2007 game to another NL city, Commissioner Bud Selig said Tuesday.

Minutes after officially announcing Pittsburgh would host its second All-Star Game in 12 years in 2006, Selig said he expects to reveal the 2007-09 sites later this summer.

With San Francisco, Arizona, Cincinnati, Philadelphia and San Diego all playing in new or relatively new ballparks and St. Louis to follow in 2006, one NL city would have to wait until 2008 for an All-Star Game should baseball stay with its traditional but no-longer-mandatory rotation.

By contrast, only the refurbished Anaheim Angels ballpark and Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg won't have been All-Star sites among the newer AL parks, once Detroit stages the 2005 game.
