If Graham leaves, it won't be for Texas. Patterson is contractually prevented from hiring an ASU head coach away for a period of time. I can't remember if its 12 or 24 months, but its long enough to take him out of play for Texas. If it weren't for this, I'd be a hell of a lot more concerned. I think Texas would have him on their Plan B list of candidates if they were able to.

It's funny how these things work out. The '84 class was heavily boosted by the addition of everyone's top QB, John Walker, out of Marcos de Niza. He was a consensus top 3 or top 5 QB that year. He couldn't beat out Van Raap, he was the rough equivalent of a 3-star QB. Those four years under Rogers had ASU swimming in talent, and a lot of those kids were lucky to be on the two-deep. For every Eric Allen or Davey Fulcher there was a Glenn Dennard.

I think ASU's '93 class flew under the radar a bit in spite of being generally well-regarded (and probably Top 20). If recruiting hadn't been as uneven as it was in '94 and '95, the '93 class probably would've had the support to really go on a three-year run.

This class ASU is bringing in kind of feels like that one -- lots of guys brought in with very specific purposes.

I'll also make this prediction: Coltin Gerhart will beat out Manny Wilkins at QB.

As an aside, I intercepted one of John Walker's passes during my senior year in high school. :) Just saying!

I guess I better read up on Coltin Gerhart. I watched the Manny Wilkins video, and boy he seems like an awesome admirable dude.

Going to be hard to do that if he ends up in Lincoln. :/

Though it sounds like the ASU coaches are now telling him he can play QB in college instead of Safety. Striking out on all other QBs and losing Eubank, they certainly need depth.

There's no way any of that would hold up in court. If UT wanted Graham and he wanted to go, it'd happen.

Gerhart was always coming in with the option to play QB. Where he started at was always up to him. The only reason ASU had him at safety was because that's what he wanted. At the time, he was quoted as pointing out the likelihood of a short QB making it to the NFL was not good, and he saw his path the NFL at safety being a solid one.

It was only after other teams -- good teams -- coming in and recruiting him at QB made him change his tune. He visited Nebraska, but I suggest he's barely wavered on his commitment to ASU and is essentially reaffirmed after talking to ASU staff about it.
