Penn State will not be going to the big dance this season after not even qualifying for the Big Ten men's basketball tournament, but the hopes for some postseason basketball is still alive on Selection Sunday for the Nittany Lions. Penn State could still be a candidate for filling a spot in the NIT or the inaugural College Basketball Crown tournament in Las Vegas. But the selections for each of those brackets will not be known until after the NCAA fields the 68-team men's basketball tournament on Sunday evening.
Once the NCAA seeds the tournament, Penn State fans will want to shift their focus to social media for the reveal of the NIT bracket. Instead of a full selection show on TV, the NIT will instead reveal its postseason bracket on its social media accounts.
The reveal for the College Basketball Crown will also be revealed at some point following the NCAA tournament selection show, but specific details on when its bracket will be revealed have not been made public.
Each postseason tournament is guaranteed to have Big Ten representation included, but Penn State finishing in 17th place likely means it will need to wait a little longer to receive a bid. Fortunately, Rutgers is one school that finished ahead of Penn State that has decided it will turn down an invitation to play in the NIT or College Basketball Crown.
