What tournaments are available to the Marquette women's team?

The Golden Eagles lost to Villanova in the first round of the Big East tournament, eliminating any hope of making the NCAAs.

But there are two secondary tournaments: the WBIT, started by the NCAA last season, and the WNIT.

The WBIT has a 32-team field, with the first four teams out of the NCAA bracket becoming the top WBIT seeds. Any regular-season conference champions that are left out of the NCAAs are also automatically in the WBIT.

MU was close to the NCAA bubble in the final weeks of the regular season, so the Golden Eagles will be in the conversation for a WBIT bid. If MU is left out, then its hopes turn to the WNIT.

Would Marquette accept a bid to a postseason tournament?

Absolutely. After MU lost in the Big East quarterfinals, Consuegra lamented her team's lack of postseason experience. It has been a better-than-expected first season for the MU coach, and she wants to keep it going.

"Our year is not over," Consuegra said after the loss to Villanova. "We'll get a chance to play in postseason."
