The Western Conference was projected to be a dogfight before the season. With six days of regular season action left, the West is meeting and possibly exceeding those expectations.

While the top two seeds in the Eastern Conference have separated themselves from the pack, Oklahoma City is the only team out West to clinch its playoff positioning.

Outside of the top-seeded Thunder, a lot of scenarios will change based on upcoming results.

The Memphis Grizzlies are in the heat of that race, currently sitting at the bottom of a four-way tie for the fifth seed. If a team isn’t in the top six, it will have to play at least one postseason play-in game.

Memphis has four games left. Two of those games are against teams the Grizzlies could surpass in the standings with wins. The Grizzlies have a realistic at finishing anywhere between third and eighth.

Here’s where the Grizzlies stand.

Remaining schedule

April 8 at Charlotte (6 p.m.)

April 10 vs Minnesota (8:30 p.m. TNT)

April 11 at Denver (8 p.m.)

April 13 vs Dallas (2:30 p.m.)

Key results over next four games

Memphis is currently seeded eighth because it has to worst combined record against the four teams in a tie. That result is drastically impacted by a combined 1-6 record against the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers.

Of the five teams with 32 losses, Memphis has the third toughest remaining schedule.

Winning three of the last four games should Memphis in a solid spot to secure a top-six seed. The Grizzlies have the tiebreaker over the Timberwolves, and Friday’s game against the Nuggets decide the winner of that season series.
