I mean we could literally do what the nets did. Have enough cap space to go after a couple high free agents that coordinate being available at the same time. That’s how the nets landed kd and uncle drew. And ishbia is definitely a players owner. And phoenix isn’t a dregs of the league team or location.

The Nets were done paying off their huge pick debt by then, they made the playoffs the year before. We have a much bigger pick debt than they ever did.

Also, what the nets did was a failure anyway. Their only reward was us capitulating and paying through the nose for a guy who was probably never going to play for them again.

The pick debt doesn’t come into play with taking advantage of massive cap space and signing free agents that are seeking to team up somewhere.

And those nets were. Kd toe away from meeting us in the finals, right? Certainly a far cry from a top 5 pick you’re certain will result in 6 years. SIX YEARS.

I don't see top tier free agents saying to themselves "I want to sign with this hopeless team". We're not New York, Miami or LA.

And yeah, I know 6 years is a long ways out, but I don't see any realistic path to avoid the abyss and if one actually does exist I certainly have not seen any indication that this brain trust will find it.

I don't think they're even done leveraging this mediocre team. They will probably be dangling the 2032 pick once it's freed up over the summer.

Well they can’t dangle 2032 now because they don’t have 2031.

I think you undersell as a destination if a couple free agents can collude to team up somewhere, particularly with a player friendly owner with deep pockets.

The 2032 pick won't freed up over the summer since the 2031 pick is already traded.

The unprotected 2032 pick will be dealt for a heavily leveraged 2031 pick where we get the worst pick of 4 teams.

I joke but tell me that doesn't sound plausible from this front office.

What I don't get is the league office being ok that these picks are already split three ways? Are the teams going to split them up to 4, 5, 6, or more ways for each pick? This is getting ridiculous! LMAO. As fans we are like, hey we go so and so's pick. No wait it goes to team X in this situation, unless team Y is worse, or team Z is worse than both. What's next pairing these splits with protections in them? Team X is first unless the pick is in the 20-30 range, but teams Y gets it in the 15-19 range, and team Z can get it if they are worse than everyone unless it falls in the 4-6 range then it could go back to Y, but only if the pick falls out of X's range?

I can hardly wait until the NBA draft moves back to 10-21 rounds, like in the old days.

Think about how many options there would be.

The NBA could easily make this a weeklong event if they extended the number of rounds.
The NFL has the audience, and as it is, day three no one but hard core guys like me watch it at all. I would rather they do the first couple rounds day one, then let all the G league level dudes have day two.

It would be cool if we traded Grayson for KCP/1st and ended up with two 1st rd picks this year even if in the 20’s. Plus a late 2nd. June will at least be interesting!

Doesn't Pope make too much money for it to work?

He does. $22.75 million. I thought his deal was a little lower and Grayson's was higher, he's at $15.62 million.

Maybe getting in on a larger deal that involves KCP could be beneficial, even if we don't land him. He's been the odd man out in Orlando. Denver would probably like him back and could use him but I don't see a way to make it work with them. Surely someone out there would bite on him. Detroit with Ivey down makes sense.
