Where would you play Jonathan Cooper?

Where you WANT him, NOT where he'll be!?!

Put him at RG...some say get rid of Snyder, but I actually think he played better at C last year, when Lyle got hurt.

Can't answer yet. We might still draft another OL, if it's a C like Schwenke or Holmes, then Cooper is a G, if it's a G, maybe Cooper is a C. That's one of the things that made him so appealing he's athletic enough to play either position well.

The guy has played LG his whole career so I start him at LG if we are going to be a zone-blocking team. I would also love to see him replace Sendlein at center. The one place I don't want to see him play is RG. That would be a stupid move by the Cards if they did that. Why, because he has always played LG and he is known for his pass-blocking skills as well as pulling. You want your best pass-blockers on the left side.

I keep hearing RG on radio and on here but I just watched highlights and he was a LG in college. Him next to levi brown should be a wonderful blind side protection set for Palmer. Levi is above average in pass pro and with a great guard who does his job should accel even more.

He pulls too well to be a center, id keep him at guard and play to his strengths. I feel like putting him at C would be like not letting peterson return punts his first year. put him in the position that brings out the most strengths.

True. However, as most teams slide protection left, the right guard often has one-on-one responsibility for the d-tackle. A good pass blocking right guard is essential to a clean pocket for a right handed QB.

if I remember right, Colledge is a bigger cap hit this year if we cut him. And Snyder I believe is as well (or the same). We might as well keep em unless the FO is just resigning to the idea that regardless we can't win this year. But if that's their mentality, I don't see why we would pick up Palmer... just a waiting game now...

That said, I think LG. It seems typically the better players play the blind side. And he's our best G. By a lot. Right out of the gate. Let Colledge, Snyder and even Kelemete battle for R with the support of the full coaching staff in camp

either way though, his addition is an immediate, significant improvement to this line. Very happy with the choice. I'm liking the new Keim/Arians regime more every day

The thing I like about playing him at LG is that he would match up against Justin Smith. Frankly I like that matchup a whole lot better than Daryn Colledge against Smith. It's probably silly to base a rookie's position on one matchup, but all else being equal, I like that matchup a lot.

LG or C, I don't really care. All I know is if Kelemete develops this year to the player I thought he could be when we drafted him, we could have the most atheltic OG combo in the NFL and will be set at OG for the near future. That is very opptomistic thinking as Kelemete has no shown much so far, but I have hope.

we definitely have a MUCH better suited coaching staff to develop young OL players. And I also liked Kelemete's raw ability. Would love to see your comment proven right this year. I also think we have considerable young talent on the outside. Potter was VERY good in 2010, expected to go top 10 in 2012 right after the '11 draft. He stumbled his last year and had awful coaching last year (resulting in poor development, and overall awful focus, evidenced by the choice to start Batiste AND Ohrnberger before even giving him a look) and still held up pretty well. Exceptionally for a 7th round, 4th string player at such a difficult position. Massie (against all coaching odds) developed very well last year and I expect him to continue to do so with this staff. I have high hopes for the development of the young players on the line this year. And finally it's not just blind optimism, we'll actually have a coaching STAFF working with them. Not just Bruce Springsteen's biggest fan

I keep forgetting about Kelemete, that would be awesome if he could win the starting job this year.

Yes, yes it would.

LT: Levi Brown <-- next position in line for an upgrade, IMO
LG: Jonathan Cooper
OC: Lyle Sendlein
RG: Senio Kelemete
RT: Bobby Massie

But, there is a lot of talk about Potter at guard so, below is a possibility when talking about getting rid of guards from last season, Wingus and Dingus.

LT: Levi Brown
LG: Jonathan Cooper
OC: Lyle Sendlein
RG: Nate Potter
RT: Bobby Massie

I personally like the thought of the following:

LT: Levi Brown
LG: Jonathan Cooper
OC: Lyle Sendlein
RG: Menelik Watson
RT: Bobby Massie

OT: Nate Potter
OG: Senio Kelemete
OC: [Late round project]

Right now I see our OL as this:

LT: Brown (Potter)
LG: Colledge (Kelemete)
C: Sendlein (Snyder, Gibson)
RG: Cooper (Kelemete, Snyder)
RT: Massie (Potter)

Snyder is a decent backup but is being paid like an elite Guard. That makes him expendable if we can find someone to backup Sendlein and are comfortable with Kelemete.

Either way there is no money savings cutting Snyder now so you might as well keep him though the preseason incase someone gets hurt or you don't have a vialbe backup for Sendlein.

It would be a nice change to have too many good options along the offensive line rather than being desperate and having to start awful players like Batiste. We are still aways from it, but having a roster with Cooper, Massie, Potter and Kelemete is a good start.

Place him at his natural position. Make Colledge, Snyder, and LS compete for two starting spots. (that is if we don't draft more OL)

It's tempting. I think they're going D here though. Right now Colledge, Snyder, Potter and Kelemete can duke it out for RG. Snyder could possibly push Sendlein too.

They say most teams prefer to run to the right. Not sure why, but if that is our case then it is obvious where to put him.

I hope Lyle isn't our starting center again this year. But I think I want Cooper to remain at Guard.

I would start Cooper at LG and release College regardless of where we go in the rest of the draft. If we draft a C in the next 2 rounds I would start that player at C and put Snyder at RG and if we draft a G in the next 2 rounds than I would start that player at RG and put Snyder at C.
