1. Lakers
2. Suns
3.Hornets
4.Denver
5.Spurs
6.dallas
7.houston
8.Utah

that would set the suns up with either the hornets or mavs in the 2nd round (let's all pray it's the mavs). We'd probably play the lakers in the conference finals.

east:

1.Detroit
2.Boston
3.Cleveland
4.Orlando
5.Toronto
6.washington
7.Chicago
8.NewJersey/Indiana

if it's cleveland vs detroit in the eastern conference finals again, cleveland will win again. their biggest challenge is getting there. Assuming they stay healthy, i like them to come out of the east. Kobe vs. Lebron in the finals....very interesting

Top 8 in order:

West:

1. Lakers
2. San Antonio
3. Utah
4. Phoenix
5. New Orleans
6. Dallas
7. Golden State
8. Denver

(Yes, I have the Rockets on the outside looking in.)

East:

1. Detroit
2. Boston
3. Orlando
4. Cleveland
5. Who Cares?
6. Who Cares?
7. Who Cares?
8. Who Cares?

I would have gone through the last teams in the East, but they are all going to be sub .500 teams without a prayer anyway, so why bother?

1. Lakers
2. Suns
3.Hornets
4.Denver
5.Spurs
6.dallas
7.houston
8.Utah

Just FYI, this seeding is not possible. The top 3 seeds are the division winners and the Lakers and the Suns are in the same division. Therefore, the Lakers cannot finish in the 1st seed with Phoenix in the 2nd. The 2nd place team in the pacific can't be any higher then 4th seed.

Miami is currently 14 games back of the 8th seed with 29 games left to play. Can't see it.

Actually they changed that before last season. Seeding is based on record now for the top 4 seeds. Cleveland was the number 2 seed and Detroit the was the number 1 seed. Chciago finished one game back of Cleveland and was the 5th seed, but with they would have won one more game, Chicago would have been the 2nd seed and Cleveland would have been the 5th seed. Toronto and Miami were the 3rd and 4th seeds.

Banky I think your mistaken on the seeding, what Darth said was accurate.

Nope.

The top four seeds will be the three division winners plus the team with the next best record. Those four will be ordered by record (and tiebreakers if needed), so it's possible that two teams in the same division could hold the top two spots, with the other two division winners at Nos. 3 and 4.

Banking on most mid-season trades working out well for the teams involved, and surges by Portland and Chicago.

Ahh, I forgot about that too. I believe they changed it because Cuban complained.
yes....that's why cuban is the man.

anyway the west is so tight i'm not even going to try to pick. the spurs and mavs play tomorrow so I'll see how kidd matches up against the spurs. dallas has played the spurs tough over the past couple years.

any team can be in any seed, so long as the 3 division leaders are in the top 4 somewhere. the top 3 seeds are not the division leaders. look at last year's playoffs....1)dallas 2)phoenix 3)san antonio. san antonio and dallas are in the same division. nice try though.

Yeah, that was already discussed at length, but thanks for your late and pointless opinion.

It was actually changed prior to the 06-07 season so that the three division winners aren't necessarily the top 3 seeds if their records aren't the top 3 in the conference.

It was done to avoid what happened in the 05-06 season when the top two teams in the conference, Dallas and San Antonio, both 60 game winners, faced each other in the second round instead of the conference finals.

Another oddity that happened that year because of the seeding rules is that it was more advantageous for the Clippers to have the #6 seed and thus avoid playing the 60-win Mavericks in the first round. Instead, they lost a few games on purpose at the end of the season to slip a position and played a weaker team in Denver, who was the #3 seed because they won their division. The Clippers by losing actually gained home court advantage in the first round because they had a better record than the Nuggets.

Memphis backed into the higher #5 seed and got swept by the Mavericks while the Clips handled Denver in 5 games and advanced to the second round (where the Suns beat them in 7 games).
