Given these 2 options, which combo would you choose?

1st pick - Dan Williams NT
2nd pick - Sean Lee ILB

or

1st pick - Sean Weatherspoon ILB
2nd pick - Cam Thomas NT

1st pick - Sean Weatherspoon ILB
2nd pick - Cam Thomas NT

This one......but is a real close call. I just think LB is more of an impact position in our defense.

I think the difference between Weatherspoon and Lee is more significant than the difference between Williams and Cam Thomas. I also see WILB as a bigger need than NT, so I would go with the Weatherspoon/Thomas combination.

Can I take

1st Weatherspoon
2nd Washington
3rd Troup

?

Or

Williams
Washington
Spikes/Lee

Or

Weatherpoon
Cody/Thomas
Spikes/Lee

Or Joseph in the 4th even?

Lots of combinations possible.

1st Williams
2nd OLB
3rd. Spikes
3rd. Lee

= Spikes Lee in the 3rd round

I see it the opposite way. I think there is a bigger difference between Williams and Thomas and Lee might be almost as good as Weatherspoon if his knee is fully recovered. I realize that is a BIG if and I would be happy with either scenario.

The highest prediction for Lee I have seen was 3rd round though pretty much and that based on injury that would be a risk still. With the prospect of the Cards needing 2 ILBs I'd be happy to take one in the first or second and then see between Lee and Spikes who will be there in the 3rd.

Scott Wright at draftcountdown.com has Lee ranked at #50 and after his pro day I can see him climbing other boards too.

Well he also still has Brandon Spikes #47, don't know about that.

I'd be really confident that Spikes or Lee will be on the board in the third.

As long as we go NT,ILB, ILB, OLB, CB with our first 5 picks I'd be fine with it. Maybe TE like Jimmy Graham or a speedy WR/PR like Jacoby Ford instead of the CB but basically that.
There are too many possible combination of players to make up scenarios.

Really depends on who is available at #26. Is Dan Williams on the board? Is McClain on the board? Is Kindle on the board? etc
Is Cody there in the 2nd round?

Hmmmm I like this thought. First off, I would be more than satisfied with either of these scenarios. However, I am leaning towards option one. I still have a few concerns about Weatherspoon playing in the middle, and think Williams is going to be great.

That said, I think Williams will be gone at that point as he seems to be rising up boards.

I just really love Weatherspoon and Lee seems like a huge question mark so they are decently far apart for me, I wouldn't be terribly disappointed if we took Lee in the second however.

I haven't watched much of Cam Thomas, but I hear he's more of a project than actual solid player at this point. Personally, I avoid big fat Tarzans that play like Jane and Cam Thomas sounds like he fits that mold. Also, other than Julius Peppers, I'm not a huge fan of UNC defensive lineman, especially tackles. They've had more busts than solid players.

3-4 defenses need stout Nose tackles, and even though Gabe Watson is a solid player, he's much to unreliable to count on at this point. So I'm going to take the most solid player now, not the guy that could be better 2-3 years down the road.

I'm also going to go on record and say I don't like Williams as a 3-4 NT. I think he doesn't hold his ground well enough and gets pushed around by single teams a good amount. He is a better pass-rusher than people give him credit for though and I feel he would do much better as a 4-3 DT.

With the DE's we boast on our roster in DD and CC, adding a monster NT is going to make any ILB's we draft all that much better. As it is, most teams already double team Dockett, you add another DLineman that requires a double team and it's going to be a field day for our LB's.

LB is a strong need for us. I am not sold on Williams and Cody being the pure NT that we need.

Don't really know much about Thomas. I found this on him.

Added value because of versatility: he's best suited as a 4-3 NT, but he could play 3-4 tackle or end.

03/01/10 - North Carolina defensive lineman Cam Thomas, who might be an ideal fit as a nose tackle in a 3-4 defense, has been moving up draft charts since the Senior Bowl. Originally viewed as a mid-round pick, there now are projections that he could go in the second or third round.

Draftcountdown has him at #10 DT.

Door #1.

Cam Thomas is a project who showed little to nothing on a loaded UNC defense.

You'd have to have an OT in the 1st 2 rounds for me to seriously consider it...

The question was "given these 2 options". That said, I would be surprised if we took an OT in the first 2 rounds.
