Hey guys,

I don't know much about this NBA salary/contract stuff but who has higher salary than Nash as point guards? AI? How much more is that? Or, is Nash the highest in terms of point guard pay?

Bibby also makes more. There are probably some others that I'm not thinking of at the moment.

Iverson, Marbury, Kidd, Davis, Francis, Bibby and Arenas. Plus, if you want to count him as a point guard(which is supposedly what he was signed to play), there's Joe Johnson.

Wow, even JJ gets more money than Nash? How? Who would give him that kind of money?

Man, that sounds like Nash's contract is definitely worth it!

Who would pay Steve Francis that kind of money? And Marbury?? Oh come on.

Well, we're the ones who gave Marbury that money.

So, basically if a player gets certain money this year, he can't get it lower the next year?

So we paid Marbury that amount of money and when he went to Knicks, they had to pay him the same amount or higher?

It's interesting to find out what certain players are making... some of them don't even make sense.

It's all like the options market. You bet on what you think a guy is going to do. Sometimes the bets are great and often times they aren't.

JJ is a perfect example of the core problem. A year and a half ago, the Suns could have locked him in at $50 million for six years but blinked because he had not played consistently well in his first three seasons. He has a great year and got $70 over 5. He was a good buy at $50 over six and a terrible buy at $70 over 5. But if he had regressed to his earlier form, even $50 million would have been a disaster due to Amare's salary coming on line.

Some teams routinely overpay to keep their players, which is why they get into deep water. Others routinely let guys go who might have helped. It is a gamble either way.
