What Will Whiz Do?

I can usually tell by how early certain players get into the 4th pre-season game. For example, I saw Abdullah in there early...hmmm. I saw Becht and Beisel in there late...hmmm....although Beisel made a good case to stick.

I saw A.J. Jefferson in there earlier than I expected and to me he looked very very good. What a fine athlete he is. He's big, fast and physcial. Plus, as we saw on his good kickoff return, he was in the top three in the NCAA in kickoff returns as a junior. For my money, he made the roster last night.

So here's my guess as to what Whiz's choices are:

QB (3): Anderson, Hall, Skelton.

If Whiz plans to bring in a veteran I think he waits until Week 2 so the contract wouldn't be guarateed, unless someone unexpected and too good to be true gets waived.

RB (4): Hightower, Wells, Stephens-Howling, Wright

This may not be as much of a no-brainer as some may think. I think Whiz loves Alfonso Smith's speed in the red zone and will discuss keeping him over Wright.

FB (1): Richardson.

I think Whiz trades Reggie Wells to the Jets for Tony Richardson...which would be a great move for both teams. If you've been watching Hard Knocks, their LG prospects that they dumped Faneca for are swiveling gates in the passing game. Wells would correct that.

WR (6): Fitzgerald, Breaston, Doucet, Williams, Komar, Roberts.

If Roberts' injury allows the Cardinals to place him on the IR, then Jones makes it.

TE (3): Patrick, Spach, Dray

I think Whiz is high enough on these three to let go of Becht. Just a hunch as to why Becht was playing late into the 4th quarter last night...although if Whiz goes back and looks at becht's blocking in the Bears game a week ago...it was textbook at times.

OL (8): Brown, Faneca, Sendelin, Lutui, Keith, Bridges, Hadnot, Johnson

I think this is where Whiz makes the toughest decision and that is to let go of Claxton...something's gotta give somewhere. But I think Whiz will stock the PS with 3 o-linemen...quite possibly the three they've been hiding: Pestock, Moosman & Knips.

NT (3): Robinson, Watson, Williams

The B-Rob decision is tough. Whiz loves the man. The player has lost a step or two, but not the enthusiasm.

DE (4): Dockett, Campbell, Iwebema, Branch

Book it, Dan-O!

ILB (4): Washington, Lenon, TBA, TBA

I think Whiz makes two waiver wire/trade moves here...if he keeps two, my hunch is they will be Beisel and Togafau.

OLB (4): Haggans, Porter, Davis, Brown

Baggs to PS. I think we desperately need a pass rusher here. If there's one to be traded for, I hope Whiz makes it. At their ages Haggans and Porter have to be subbed in for when they are gassed. Davis and Brown combined for zero sacks and very few pressures this pre-season. To think we were this close to acquiring Kamerion Wimbley? So close.

CB (5): Rodgers-Cromartie, Toler, McBride, Adams, Jefferson

Green to PS.

S (5): Wilson, Rhodes, Ware, Johnson, Abdullah

Abdullah makes it!

ST (3): Feely, Graham, Leach

PS (8): RB-Smith; OL-Pestock; C-Moosman; OL-Knips; LB-Baggs; LB-Walker, CB-Green; CB-Calvin

Predict yours. Go for it! Closest poster gets a brand new Cardinals' hat from me.

You have to guess ALL 61!

Mitch.

I must say you are not afraid of going with the completely unobvious moves. What are the odds of this one happening? If it does happen I'm officially in the Mitchadamus camp.

No way Baggs goes to PS. He would go back to Canada.

No way we go with Jefferson over McBride and/or Miller. (I know you included McBride)

You also have Calvin on the PS, when we traded him this week, btw.

Jorrick Calvin is no longer with the team.

Sorry, I should have clarified that, jf. You're right.

What I meant was, if he is waived by the Eagles, the Cardinals could ask him back to their PS and Calvin would have the prerogative to accept the invitation. I think they do have this in mind.

Dream: Miller was on the field late...not a good sign, nor was the last two weeks of bobbles and fumbles.

Good point, swd. It depends how badly he wants to keep his dream alive of playing in the NFL. He can see the cardinals need edge rushers and continue to try to make his case. Plus, he might like living in AZ instead of Canada.

It would seem to make sense for both teams, MadCard.

The Jets love Richardson...but Rex Ryan adores his prize draft pick John "The Terminator" Conner, and with good reason.

On last week's espisode they were trying to decide between WR Coles and FB Richardson and waived Coles. I think they realize that keeping 2 FBs is a luxury.

Plus if you saw them watching film of Ducasse whiffing on pass blocks...they really need a LG.

I was more pointing out the difficulty of predicting a trade. It's almost impossible. You definitely didn't take the easy pick of one of the guys already on the roster.

Cuse Orangeman...I thought Jefferson looked tentative and very raw...until last night. Really, you need to catch the tape. He jumped out like crazy. He was in good position and knocked the snot out of a couple of RBs and WRs...so much so that everytime he made a tackle the announcers were saying how tough players are coming out of Fesno St. Jefferson has the physcial tools you dream of and seeing as he was in the game before Marshay Green...that made me wonder what the coaches were thinking.

From Urban's guess at the 53:

Paris Lenon — in
Daryl Washington — in
Reggie Walker — in
Gerald Hayes — bubble
Pago Togafau — bubble
Monty Beisel — bubble
Chris Johnson – out*

Other than Washington that group is really weak. Worst depth on the team imo.

So I'd have to agree with Mitch's selection of TBA and TBA.

He was also returning punts in a position that still appears to be up in the air.

Yes, but Max Komar made a very positive step last night toward winning that job. And Whiz has already said he can go back to Breaston whenever he wants...and with the emergence of Stephen Williams I think Whiz will turn back to Breaston for a couple of punt returns a game.

Really, I didn't see the last few minutes of the game, but he looked average there. 7 yard average is nothing to take home.

Excellent summation of players, Mitch. Showed good thought.

Jefferson has potential to be a very good db. Not sure quite what his playing speed is, but the only thing I saw wrong with him was his coverage was a little loose. I loved the way he tackles.

Btw, I wish that Daryl Washington would give tackling seminars to the rest of the defense. He has the most beautiful tackling form that this team has seen in a long time... long time.

Excellent points, Larry! Right on. Jefferson needs coaching...but based on the improvement he showed this week, he's responding to it. As for D-Wash's form, you are very astute to point that out. He drives through the man. And when he can't get square he goes hard for the legs.

The thing is though...he was smooth...caught the ball cleanly on each occasion and displayed some nifty feet.

That said, I think he would be part of the mix there...because Breaston will get his chances in key situations.
