There's probably only five guys to choose from; KJ, Barkley, Marion, Amare and Nash.

Honorable Mentions - Majerle, Chambers, Kidd, Hornacek

---------

How would you rank them?

For me:

1 Nash
2 KJ
3 Amare (drafted by Suns)
4 Barkley (traded to Suns)
5 Marion

H.M. Chambers (FA but in the Reggie White category of importance)

Jason Kidd has to be in the top 5. Come on he made 3 straight all-nba first teams a Sun.

Shawn Marion barely misses. C

On a fan forum I'm not sure that all-NBA teams matter as much as playoff wins, and Kidd won only a single series in his five years leading the Suns. His of-court problems don't help, either. Meanwhile Marion is still all over the Suns record book.

And our Suns have historically been a team that is more satisfied with stats than strength in the post season. For example, despite his stats, Shawn Marion was an opportunity rebounder rather than a dominant rebounder. As you'd expect when your top statistical rebounder is a Wing.

If I remember right Kidd missed most of that series, that was the year KJ came out of retirement.

I think you are right, but to be fair to Kidd, his tenure with the Suns was affected by two excellent players being on the payroll and never playing. Had Penny and Googs not suffered career-ending injuries, Kidd may have won a bit more.

No, no, not McDyess.

Yeah, Dice wouldn't make my list, he did very little for us. Davis wouldn't make my list either though given that it's supposed to be the last 30 years. Walter was pretty much done as far as we're concerned by 87, thanks to that ridiculous drug investigation by a corrupt DA.

As far as I can remember we never were the favorites to win in those years.

Lost reasonably close series to Shaq and Kobe and Williams, Christie, Peja, Webber, Divac Kings.

Plus going by that Shawn Marion was regularly disappearing in the playoffs. Pretty sure Kidd still holds many Suns records despite playing the same position as Nash and KJ.

I didn't realize there was a cutoff on players eligible.

McDyess is probably my least favorite Sun as he jilted the team after they traded for him to be a building block. Then he came back to heal from injury and then left again.

I will always remember Walter Davis with that sweet shot. He is a sentimental favorite for me although he was a really good player as well.

Thread title says "last 30 years" so I took it literally, maybe that wasn't intended?

But yeah, Walter is my favorite all time Sun. He was incredible.

I completely disregarded "of the last 30 years" part of the title. It's funny how a mind can do this... see what it wants to see. Anyway, Walter Davis was one of my favorites as well.

Perhaps the title of the thread is ambiguous. Top 5.

Top 5 individual showmen? Top 5 in stats? Top 5 leading us to be championship contenders?

The Suns almost 50 year history eliminates the third category.

Chambers doesn't even crack your top 10 in the past 30 years?
Don't get me wrong, I loved me some chambers. He changed our franchise forever being the first of the midnight free agents. But in terms of watching him . . . he was awesome early but he always seemed to get the ball stripped by buck Williams at the end of games at a crucial point . . . even when we weren't playing the blazers.

Aw hell I loved me some TC.

BC... you just had to get that last part in there... when NO ONE mentioned it. We get it just as much as you do that we haven't won a title ever. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. Get over your IM THE ONLY ONE WHI CARES!!!! issue

My list:

Barkley
KJ
Nash
Amare
Thunder Dan (pre-back-2-back-Rockets series)

Honorable Mention: Horny/Chambers/Chapman.

Marion will never sniff my list. That headcase playoff underachiever was the consistent reason we couldn't get over the hump, IMO and from all reports was the reason we didn't get KG. And he pouted like a freaking bitch too much for a guy who continually folded like a soft taco come playoff time.
