I like the "non Cardinal" qualification ;)

My list is going to be skewed by my age, not going to list players I wasnt old enough to see.

And my original list had 4 offensive players and one D, so I got crazy and made a top 5 O and top 5 D.

Offense

Joe Montana
Jerry Rice
Barry Sanders
Peyton Manning
LaDanian Tomlinson

Defense

Lawrence Taylor
Bruce Smith
Steve Atwater
Rod Woodson
Ray Lewis

Gayle Sayers
Deacon Jones
Darrell Green
Joe Montana
Jake Plummer, (you didn't say who was best, just who was my favorite).

Earl Campbell is my all time favorite followed by Barry Sanders. Favorite defensive player is Ed Reed.
Eric Dickerson and Bo Jackson would round out my top 5.

Gotta go with:

Jim Brown
Joe Montana
Dan Fouts (my favorite QB ever)
Kellen Winslow (the original)
Deacon Jones or Nightrane Lane

If they were not a Cardinal they can't be a favorite for me

Barry Sanders
Darrell Green
Don Beebe (just because of what he did on that sure-fire td for Dallas in the Super Bowl)
OJ Simpson (ONLY based on his life as a PLAYER football)
Steve Young

Fearsome Foursome as a Unit. I can't list Deacon without the others. He wouldn't want that either, so:

Deacon Jones
Lamar Lundy
Merlin Olsen
Rosey Grier

Joe Namath

(I can HIGHLY recommend the "The Fearsome Foursome - A Football Life". It was done by George Allen's daughter and she did a great job of showing who they were as teammates and men and what that era was like. They were something very special on and off the field.)

OJ was the real deal. First to gain 2k in a season (14 games). That sweep with McKenzie leading was something else.

Joe Montana - the coolest cucumber to ever play QB
Wilbur Marshall - best LBer I've ever seen
Deion Sanders - a showman like no other
Barry Sanders - the guy took the Lions to the playoffs singlehandedly... mutliple times
Unfortunately... with K9... Adrian Peterson - most electric player in the game, who defies the human body.
