Good Hire! Buckner will have the D-Line prepared, focused, and Physical.

Sentiments exactly, for those who don't know Buckner was a great technique guy and a very good DT. He is young, he is hungry, he will relate, he has credit with our current players. Dan Williams will blossom under him. He will be a DC in 3 years, much better hire than Bowles.

Carefull about using any facts to knock the Horton-defense.

Regardless of the defensive stats; it was the offense's fault for being so putrid.

This coaching sweep sure will make for some nice side-stories to watch around the league.

Football is a team game. The Dline can't account for the fact that Paris Lenon and the OLBs aren't good enough to start on NFL teams.

Daryl Washington also had about 50 bajillion missed tackles last season according to PFF.

Does anyone else remember the interviews he conducted for NFL Network on Panthers' Cam when he was a player there?

He was hysterical---

And then he was very insightful about the upcoming game---good football mind---

Type A personality for sure!

I do remember them. He goes back to the very beginning of NFLN. He is definitely not a shrinking violet. With him and DD in the same room, we do have to worry about about a case of 'laughing to death.'

Kissing his cleats

Found this Seattle Time story about hs quirky personality, e.g. kissing his cleats before games.

Brentson Buckner

First, let's clear up one thing: Yes, Buckner really does kiss his cleats before every game.

It is such a unique pregame ritual that Visa decided to make a commercial out of it last year, with Buckner fictitiously using the card to buy lip balm for the pregame pecks on his shoes in honor of each of his family members. Buckner estimates he plants about 1,300 kisses on his cleats per season.

I thought Paris Lennon had a great year; he more tackles than anyone else on our team besides Washington...by a BUNCH.
Defense Player Tot Solo Assist Sck F

Daryl Washington 134 108 26 9.0 2
Paris Lenon 103 74 29 2.0 1
Kerry Rhodes 67 58 9 1.0 2

If you looks you can see our LBs and S are making too many tackles that our Dline should have made; Dline stats (particularyl for Dockett) are dismal.

It was why we were 28th in the league against the rush.

You are entitled to your opinon; but the numbers don't back it up.

Horton was "above average" as a DC; my opinion. I think most of you are twiterpated about him because our previous DC's were just bad.

But don't let stats interfere with your opinon. It must of been all Horton.

Pretty much. Took basically the same guys that sucked eggs in 2010 and turned them into a very solid defense, especially against the pass.

The Cards won 6 games with Double Dunce at QB. That's amazingly, incredibly, outstanding work by the defense. :p

Sorry, but you can't judge dline play through raw stats. Dline is all about filling your gaps and letting the linebackers flow to the ball. Of course, Campbell is excluded as he is the 1 gapping penetrator on the team.

They're not much different from the 49ers anyway whose LBs have even more tackles.

Watching the game, you can easily see that Paris Lenon is a horribly non-athletic player. His lack of athleticism forces him to takes poor angles to the football and causes a lot of missed tackles which plays a huge hand in the bad run D.

Undisciplined play from the OLBs has resulted in a lot of big runs this year too. There's honestly a lot more to blame for the poor run defense but I wouldn't put DLine anywhere the list.

Besides, the run D stats aren't that bad when you realise it includes a game where the defense gave up about 300 rushing yards because they weren't even trying.

I'd say Horton is an elite DC working with mostly good talent. He was hamstrung by some bad players at certain positions and doesn't have the luxury of one elite player on the defense. I think he's going to look like a allstar when he gets talent comparable to the 49ers today and the Ravens/Steelers of yesteryear
