The Oregon Ducks are moving on in the NCAA Tournament after smashing the Liberty Flames in the first round on Friday night, 81-52. Ranked 25th in the final AP Poll before the tournament, the Ducks are five-seed in the 2025 tournament after a 24-9 season.
Oregon was favored to beat Liberty by 7.5 points, but Liberty became a somewhat common upset pick, as some felt Liberty's elite three-point shooting (39% as a team, which is sixth in the country) would carry them to the win. The Flames finished 8/21 (21.6%) from three, while Oregon shot 10/21 (47.6%) from deep.
The Ducks were led by star point guard Jackson Shelstad, who scored 15 first-half points on 75% shooting from the floor and from three. In the second half, Shelsatd got some much-needed rest and scored just two points.
The Ducks' next matchup will take place on Sunday against the Arizona Wildcats — the four-seed in the East region. Although they are no longer in the same conference, Oregon and Arizona are familiar foes, having met 60 times in their history. The last meeting between the Ducks and Wildcats came in last year's Pac-12 Tournament when Oregon defeated the Wildcats, 67-59, in the semifinal round. The two teams have never met in the NCAA Tournament.

This second-round game will take place at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, where both teams played their first-round games. The stadium has been open since 2021, and it was built to house the Seattle Kraken, the NHL's newest expansion team.
