You know those rating systems are flawed. They don't take into account houses that have more than two television sets and other things of that nature.

Probably the perfect quote to post on this thread. I tip my hat to you and say, "well played sir"

Mesa is no Long Beach or San Jose in size so you can't say Mesa, Chandler, Phx, Glendale, etc together make Phx a top 10 market.

You do realize that Mesa is the 36th largest city in terms of population in the country right and Phoenix is 5th?

San Jose is more than double the size of Mesa. Long Beach is 100,000 bigger than Mesa.

Actually, no. Mesa is at 400,000 to Long Beach's 460,000. Mesa is approaching buildout, though, unless flood control releases land to them near old Willy.

As crappy as the Nielson Ratings system is, at least they are starting to take into account DVR numbers. I remember when TIVO was posting their own ratings they always differed from NRS. Then all of the sudden I got this letter in the mail stating that the NRS wanted to include me in the 1st pilot to use my ratings data in conjunction with the NRS.

So basically they just bought TIVO's numbers and did a hybrid between the two to come out with a new number. It's still bogus because the NRS is flawed but I think it's at least a tad more accurate because of the DVR numbers.

Los Angeles is always counted as "the Greater Los Angeles Area" and totals just under 10 million, Long beach also has two or three cities that are never on Census counts but are actually parts of the city. Signal Hill is an entire city inside of Long Beach, meaning it has no other border than with Long Beach and no coastline. Every border borders Long Beach. Lakewood also fingers into Long beach at many many points.

The three are usually shared as most of the city services are shared, although Signal Hill has their infamous police department they are monitored by the Long Beach Police. I believe the total of the combined three is just under 600,000.

I love this stuff though, very cool, I had no idea that Mesa was so big... Awesome stuff..

I think that when counties are considered just L.A. County is over 3 times the population of Maricopa County. 10 mill to 3.5 mill. The Bay area has always lumped them all together but they are actually fairly compact...

Not many people in Mesa realize Mesa is as populated. It's a lot like Oakland. There's no there ... there.

I work in real estate and my brother and I have been investigating new home developments in Queen Creek, Florence, and Maricopa. The market absolutely sucks right now, but there are so many good deals in those areas, the growth really hasn't stopped. We are basically at the point where Phoenix Metro southward growth is now officially penetrated Pinal County. Next stop? Tucson, I guess. That place could use some improvement. ;)

I remember his teacher telling me that Tucson and Phoenix would be one megalopolis in 10 years. I was in fourth grade at the time... over 20 years ago. There's a lot of space to fill in before that actually happens.

Dude, once you do, you will be begging Kim for HD.

Sports just does NOT cut it after watching it in HD. Hell, you almost forget the Cards are losing while watching it.
