#1 Daryl Washington: Batted balls. Tackles for loss. Pressure on the QB. Making plays on TO's. Just in the rigth spot all the time! So far looks like he could be an absolute stud!

#2 Greg Toler: Played just like in practice. Blanketed every WR he covered tonight and made nice plays all over the field.

#3 Matt Leinart: Played very well and under control tonight. Was crisp clean and accurate despite protection issues! LOVE it so far!

#3 Skelton: Wow did he look good. His passes were crisp clean and accurate. Lead the Cards back for the victory with not 1 but 2 TD drives. Could be a gamer.

#4 Stephen Williams: Athletically gifted and it showed. Again making plays in an actual game rather than just practice.

#5 Cody Brown: Solid all around game making plays and getting pressure. Like getting another high draft pick who could surprise.

VERY PLEASED WITH OVERALL SHOWING TONIGHT!

Kudos to the people that run our drafts.

Washington blew me away. Skelton comes in second, but I can't say enough about Skelton leading the comeback. Very impressed.

Co-sign.

And I'll add

#6 Alphonso Smith: This kid is fast and quick. I doubt he makes the team because we are deep at RB, but man. You can never have enough RBs stashed away.

#7 Max Komar: Made some tough catches across the middle and down the sideline.

#8 Jim Dray: I expected nothing out of him and he made a play or two, that counts as impressing me.

Washington, Skelton, Toler, Beanie, Fitz, Leinart, Graham all looked good for the Cards.

Most impressive? Mario Williams punking Brandon Keith, and Andre Johnson all alone schooling Justin Miller who should've never been on that 1-on-1 assignment without safety help.

Justin Miller the Kick Returner is the only one I would add. I saw some good rushes from Ibewema and Davis as well.

Otherwise you covered it like DRC Shaner.

You mean against our 5th string CB?

No matter how many times its said, you hear fans complain every time. The one on one play by the CB's is by design in the preseason. That would NEVER happen in the regular season with DRC, let alone Justin freaking Miller.

I think you summed it up well, but some other points

Beanie Wells: Ran hard, shook off a rib injury during the week, secured the ball, blocked well and played smart

Rex Hadnot: Ran well, solid run-blocking

Togafu: Good athleticism and uses it well.

Jim Dray: Beautiful snag

in general: In the Whisenhunt years, the pre season performances have always been a little underwhelming -- so I am not going to jump to conclusions

that being said, two issues jumped out that are concerns:

pass protection / general offensive line physicality. Overall, pretty substandard and needs to improve.

Pass defense. Ugh -- and I am not talking about the TD pass (I feel confident in saying that Justin Miller will never be asked to cover Andre Johnson 1-1).

I think you summed up the top 5 already.

I will add to your Stephen Williams summary - blocking very well on the screen pass fopr a TD.

I will add to your Skelton summary - he might be a better gamer then he is a practice guy. Some guys practice like Tarzan and Play like Jane(see Lance Long from last year) and some other do the opposite(maybe Skelton).

I liked Matts game tonight, although I think he could get a better feel for the rush slightly (nothing he could do when Williams through Keith like a rag doll on the one sack though). He didnt force anything, and they didnt let him try any roll outs or move him around in the pocket which I assume will be a big part of our real game plan.

Washington if he stays close to Lott, might be Timmons #2 but not take 3 years to get there like Timmons did. Meaning good combo of solid amount of tackles with good amount of sacks, INT's, and PD's thrown in. 4 out of 5 tool LB only missing the last and final tool of hard hitting.

Jim Dray and Max Komar gets the honorable outside looking in awards for the top 5 list. Dray blocked well and showed ability to find zones and use soft hands. Komar in both of his catches made every effort to get to the only spot that Skelton could throw the ball - Skelton got the ball in those windows and Komar got to those windows.

Did even come close to watching the OL or DL so I cant comment.

1)Leinart-dispite being under alot of pressure from the pass rush

2)Washington-game ball, but most of his work came against non starters but his skills are evident

3)Iwebema-solid pass rush

4)Williams-ran solid routes & should have had a TD on the underthrown PI

5)Skelton-Great arm, quick release. Maybe he's one of those guys who plays better than practice

6)Calvin-showed some soild man to man skills as seemed to always be near his WR

7)Cody Brown-showed his burst around the edge a few times but had problems still getting off blocks

8)Tolar-maybe the Cards finally have another starter at CB

I can't say enough good things about Washington. He was involved in a lot of plays. He has tremendous speed at linebacker and knows what to do when he gets there. Stephen Williams looks like another excellent WR. The Cardinals are so good at collecting them. Even with all the caveats about rookies and preseason, Skelton looked like the best QB on the field tonight. He is so poised, tall and mobile. He looked like a veteran. He definitely is a keeper.

Of the no name guys Marshay Green impressed me the most. Talk about game speed and tough as nails. Although he might not last more than about 3 games if he insists on slamming into guys like Henry.

Nice punt return as well.

And I didn't even know he was on the roster. :D

Toler - played man to man really well. We should be able to have him and DRC man up at times to give the D more options. Definitely looks like a starter to me.

Paris Lenon - made some solid tackles. Definitely better than I thought.

Skelton - looked much better at looking off the receiver and putting a nice touch on the ball. Looked very comfortable in the pocket.

Washington - What can I say about this kid? He was all over the field and was a solid tackler. Very quick with good instincts.

Cody Brown - played a good game and looked like he knew where he was supposed to be.

Williams - has lots of talent. He is really tall and can run. I hope he gets a shot at the roster.

Komar - made some nice grabs at the end of the game.

Not good list.

Matt Leinart - did not play well at all IMO. He stared down the receivers, got Fitz injured and threw weak passes. He only knows where his primary receiver is at and does not look around the field to throw off the DB. Did play action well.

DA - threw the ball too hard. Needs to have a better touch on his throws.

Opposing team marches down the field on the opening drive. Again. Some things don't change.

1st team offense looked out of sync. No push on running plays.

1. Washington- No brainer. Dude not only showed speed, but great instincts, sound tackling and a willingness to get in the mix. Seemed to look better to me than the last #58 on our roster did in his first preseason game.

2. Toler- If Trumaine McBride is good enough to start over him then I'm no longer terrified about our CB situation. Aside from one blown tackle he was downright awesome tonight.

3. John Skelton- We could not have asked for more from him. The only incompletion he had should have been caught. Truth be told, the worst pass he threw was the PI call that got us 32 yards (IIRC). We knew he had a hell of an arm, but he really made DA look bad by showing that you can have a cannon and still exhibit some touch and send catchable passes. Great calm under pressure on the screen at the end.

4. Matty Lite- He did what he needed to do tonight to keep people quiet for the next week IMO. He was poised and accurate, though I think he checked down a few times rather than taking a couple open shots downfield. Matt and Doucet have been working together the past few years and it shows, Early was a hell of a fantasy pick for me this year.

5. Kerry Rhodes- Was in position to make plays all night and showed great speed, athleticism and fluidity. He didn't register any tackles, but I don't recall him missing any either, ala his predecessor.

Other Notables

Cody Brown- Looked comfortable out there and faster than Berry did last year.

Stevie Baggs- Was getting into the backfield and was around the ball. He will make this team IMO.

Jorrick Calvin- After a year off, this kid looked better than what I was expecting. He is defintiely a tenacious athlete, but the "Mike Adams Mis-sack" was not cool at all.

Dan Williams- The big man held the LOS and was hustling around the field. He will be the player we have needed at the NT spot.

Alan Branch- Granted I doubt it's coincidental that he waited until his contract year to do it, but he has lost weight and looks like a real athlete out there.

Kenny Iwebema- Looked damn good tonight. Props to this guys, who looks like he could definitely fill a starting spot and take care of business.

Rashad Johnson- He looked like a real NFL player tonight.

Jim Dray- I expected nothing and got something, good job.

Justin Miller- Horrible at CB, but looked significantly bigger/faster than LSH on kickoffs.

Marshay Green- Looks like a little player out there. With the dreads he looks like an Eric Green who can actually tackle.

Max Komar- Go 'head Lance Long part two. Mitch is typing up a page or two about how you will be our Wes Welker as we speak.

Unimpressive

Derrick Anderson- No touch and throws every ball as hard as he can. Color me entirely unimpressed. He made it seem like there should be a controversy over the #2 spot instead of the #1..

Beanie- Hey I'm his biggest fan, but i gotta call it like I see it. He didn't look motivated or energetic at all. He did have a nice stiffarm though.

Abdullah- Sucks. Looked like Rashad Johnson did last year at this time.

LSH- Where was Mighty Mouse??? i didn't see him do anything other than run back kickoffs in the first half (and Justin Miller looked much better at it).

Spach- Blown blocks are not cool when that is supposed to be your specialty.

Lenon- The original long run in the beginning of the game featured Lenon making maybe the worst defensive play I have ever seen at the pro level. It's not gap control when you're headed to open field. He chose to tackle the blocker instead of the runner, wtf?? He may be starting come week one, but I think after tonight it will have to be in Gerald Hayes' spot. Here's hoping Walker can play next week and does well.

Dominique Byrd- He's out there but doesn't get the ball. I wanna see something, as i feel compelled to root for the guy.

FWIW, I do not think Andre Roberts was too bad tonight. Anderson throws a crappy ball IMO.

You think the RBs in the flat were his primary receivers?? Also, he had plenty of heat on that pass to Fitz, it was every bit as hard as a Warner pass over the middle IMO.

On the Fitz play he stared him down the whole way and threw the ball right at the FS so Fitz got smashed. He threw the ball well, but the stare down and location was bad. He got Fitz injured IMO. Same kind of throws Josh McCown used to make. They look good, but they put the receiver in a bad position.
