As reported in the Charlotte Observer this morning:
"Lions running back Avon Cobourne was held out of practice Friday and is questionable for Sunday's game against the Cardinals"!

Lions | Bryson Likely to Start? - from www.KFFL.com

ESPN's John Clayton reports Detroit Lions RB Olandis Gary probably won't get the starting nod for the team in Week 1. The team is likely to go with Shawn Bryson as their starter even though they've said they'll wait until game day before making a decision.

If I recall right, Shawn Bryson is more of a powerback, not too fast. We should be able to keep him contained, we just need to concentrate on wrapping him up. Is he any good at picking up the blitz? I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

I watched the LIONS against the BILLS in pre-season.

They run a classic West coast offence.

Running between the tackles, drop-off and short passes to set-up play action passes.

It's going to be difficult to put serious pressure on Harrington and their O-line is quite solid in both pass protection and in the running game.

Our D-line is going to have to be quite solid against the run... our Linebackers solid in coverage over the middle... and, unless we get some rush on their play action passes, we're going to find out real soon whether our corners are adequate.

I think Bryson had something like 10 carries for 12 yards in the pre-season. Expect to see Gary and Bryson try to carry the load.

No, Bryson is a burner in an everydown back body. I don't know why he's not getting more love from detroit (or anyone else for that matter).

Last year he was the subject of numerous trade talks. Maybe he doesn't have the mentality or the vision or little something it takes to be a starter, but the man can fly. I think the last thing he can be called is a powerback (if you're thinking of a powerback in the mold of eddie george or Jerome Bettis).

PS--Bryson scares me, and I think he should have the respect of the Cardinals defense. He's a real threat to take it to the house on every touch. I hope I'm wrong this week, but if he ever gets the chance to be someone's feature back I think he'll be a helluva player.

40yearfan, it looks like he has four TD's, two rushing and two receiving. Not great but look at Priest Holmes. All he needed was a chance.
