Alvan played Center at 212 lbs. He had the skiniest arms on the court.elindholm said:From what I have read Alvin Adams was a PF out of position. Or even a SF. I don't know what his playing weight was, but in the old tapes, he sure doesn't look very muscular.
His first season, he took the league by surprise, and was part of the Suns Cinderella team which reached the Finals.
If Jerry Colangelo and John MacLeod has moved Alvan to Forward for the rest of his career, I don't believe the Suns would have built this legacy of being a soft team.
Some very good Power Forward were wasted on the Suns for the next decade because they had to play against bigger, heavier Centers. Instead of being very good PF's, they were mediocre Centers.
Ironically, the only PF who could have done OK at Center was Rick Robey, but he had been third string C on the Celtics, and his skill level was no match for the rest of the league's Centers.
