Who likes Shipley for the 53 and Penny for 53/PS?

I really like this Penny kid...I've been trying to figure out who his running style reminds me of...and I'm thinking it's a little Eddie George and Shaun Alexander...not sure if he has their breakaway speed, yet, but he sure looks good between the tackles and in zone reads. If he can just keep his pants from falling down...lol

I hope he sticks with the team...

The only way Shipley makes the team is if they are willing to part with Golden. The problem with that scenario is that Golden is a solid ST's player. Shipley looks like a poor mans Julian Edelman. He is sneaky quick and runs great routs.

Penny is a mystery too me. He looks like a beast, but he is playing against bad competition. He may have a chance to make the 53. His scenario reminds me of William Powell a few years back. In the 4th preseason game he ran the ball 30+ times for over 100+ yards and was cut the next day.

Very interested to see how this shakes out.

As someone else pointed out yesterday, the argument is also that he's playing behind 2nd and 3rd team Offensive Line and other supporting cast members...How would he perform against another teams starters, if he were playing with Cards starters?

Taylor is smart, can block and plays well on special teams.. and that's exactly what we need in a 4th running back.

Penny has looked good running the ball against low depth/camp fodder - but can he be expected to do those critical things that Taylor does? I'm perfectly content with no one behend DJ, CJ and Andre getting a single carry this year not in garbage time - so the biggest question becomes pass pro/special teams value.

That's a great question. Unfortunately, I don't think we will ever know the answer because it is unlikely he makes the 53. Hopefully we will know by the end of the day.

We probably aren't going to hear about cuts until the 1pm deadline on Saturday (according to an AZCentral article I read).

I don't think Barkley makes the 53. I think both Penny & Shipley would be grabbed off the PS. Maybe not in week one, but soon. I agree Penny looks like a talent. They might put Taylor on the Returnable IR. They could then take a longer, more secure look at Penny. If he can displace Taylor he offers a cheaper, longer availability option. The special team play is the more concerning issue. Taylor is valuable there. Still I'd not take a chance on losing Penny.

There is still a chance at Penny on the 53, even with keeping Taylor - we are talking the last two roster spots, Taylor plays teams, so he gets that spot and Penny is our fourth RB :)

Penny and Shipley are nice little players but I don't think either makes the final cut.

Golden and Taylor are legitimate NFL special teamers. The Cardinals are a viable SB contender. I seriously doubt they are going to replace proven pros with unproven young guys because they may have slightly higher ceilings as positional players. I'm not even sure they do honestly.

BA said it yesterday, for the most part with the fringe players it's going to come down to special teams.

Do you know how many tackles Stepfan Taylor has in 3 years of playing STs?

Anyone care to guess?

The number might surprise you.

The ST jobs that the Cardinals like him to do most are being the blocker in front of the punter and an edge blocker on FGs. But, there is no reason why Elijhaa Penny can't do those jobs, especially at his size, and he's even faster than Taylor.

Penny would be the number four for me. I think he makes the team after the way he played against the Broncos. I also think Barkley makes the team. He looked way better than Stanton has this preseason. I like him as our number 3 right now but I can see him as our number two next year.

If you were one of the decision makers of a team on the cusp of winning a world championship, would you rather have a proven veteran in that role or a guy that has never done it at this level and would be learning on the job?

I don't like AQ Shipley to make the 53 roster at all, but it probably is inevitable. Oh, you mean the "Other" Shipley? Yeah, he's done his job better this preseason, so he should make the team as well.
