Who should not be retained?
Ignore contracts, trades possibilities, 2nd apron restrictions, etc.

some Booker facts/stats are helpful considering the cherry-picking Arizona Sports TV/Radio hype:

Devin Booker 2024-2025 Season

OFFENSE RANKING
12th in points
15th in assists
239th in shooting percentage
307th in 3pt percentage
107th offensive rating
289th clutch rating
(33%, 18% 3pt. 7 career game winning shots- very low for a team's #1 option, go-to player over 11 seasons)

522th (of 568) DEFENSE RANKING (50% of a players value on the court)

overall 434th +/- rating (OFFENSE + DEFENSE impact)

Top 10 NBA salary (Booker will make more than Kevin Durant next season though Durant has better stats in all of the above except for assists.) A 75 million Booker deal is expected this year. Currently, the top NBA salary is 59 million.

Team Performance:
Worst Suns season several times. Best Suns season + NBA Finals + among top defensive team and clutch team with Chris Paul for 2 seasons. Back to among worst defensive and clutch team without Chris Paul. 7 coaches replaced over 10 seasons. Consistent team chemistry/motivation/meltdown problems though the team has been completely turned over and built around Booker many times.

Someone picked Oso? Why? Can't complain about not developing rookies when you want to get rid of them after their first year...

and it isn't just Booker's defense that's a drag on the team (worst rated defender in Sun's history). His offense alone is an overall negative.

THE SUNS SHOOT BETTER AS A TEAM THAN BOOKER (48% to 45%)
-- so they're better off when he doesn't shoot. It helps teammates when he's double-teamed. But we saw that in the 8 straight blowouts to end our playoff hopes, our opponents started single-coverage on him because Booker focusing on scoring was to their advantage.

Who should be kept would have been easier. I'm fine with everyone going, for the right return. That includes Dunn and Oso if we can get 2030 or later picks for them. By the time they're eligible for their paydays we still won't control our draft picks so there's no real advantage to keeping them around that long.

I'm also fine with a team of misfits who plays hard with something to prove, like the Bledose/Dragic/Green Suns were in Hornacek's first year here. Time will tell but a firm plan needs to be set into motion soon. We can't waiver from it. Continuity produces success in the NBA, see the Nuggets, Celtics, Warriors, Bucks, and virtually every Finals team that didn't have LeBron in the last 15 years.

it's one thing to ignore trades and 2nd aprons restrictions but contracts are key, otherwise, why do most fans here want to get rid of Durant? -- easily our best performing player, still playing at Hall Of Fame level? He's not a great leader, but he's a better leader than anyone else on the team and the players respect him, his experience, and his bbiq.

I really don't know how to answer this because I don't know what our intentions are. I think ideally we'd trade every veteran 25 and older that has positive value and then spend the first half of the season showcasing the remaining veterans. But if we're still deluding ourselves into thinking we're only tweaks away from fixing things then IMO it really doesn't matter who we keep and who we get rid of. We're still going to be a dysfunctional team with no hope for many years.

This would have been too easy and lack visibility of everyone’s hatred for the team lol
