He appears to be Berry's replacement in waiting. IMHO.

YEAH baby finally a UConn guy on the Cards. He's a great player and will be used in the DE/OLB IMO. Great, great pick. BTW F the Colts for stealing Donald Brown from the Cards.

Surprise
I wasn't surprised at all that we took Cody. He is a pass rusher who can play OLB in the 3-4 who was expected to be a 2nd-3rd round pick. I figured it would either be Johnson or Cody after the other pass rushing OLBs went off the board in the middle of round 2.

Meh. The only reason a guy like Sidbury is a "name" on this board to 90% of us is because he has been a hot choice in a couple user mocks.

According to what I have read Brown is a an excellent pass rusher who has played end and will transition to OLB in a 3-4 with his pass rushing capabilities. Think Leroy Hill.

In Wiz I trust.

Still elated over the Beanie pick.

Great pick. He will play OLB and can get to the QB. This is from Scoot Wright at www.nfldraftcountdown.com

Cody Brown
Height: 6-21/8 | Weight: 244 | 40-Time: 4.84

Official Bio

Strengths:
A fantastic athlete...Good speed with a burst to close...Quick and agile...Excellent mobility and range...Fluid and smooth...Great change of direction skills...Does a nice job in space...Uses his hands well...Tough and competitive...Has special teams potential...Versatile with some experience at linebacker ... Solid intangibles ... Productive.

Weaknesses:
Does not have the height or bulk that you look for...Needs to get stronger...Lacks great instincts and awareness...Repertoire of pass rush moves is limited...Is a liability against the run...Can get physically manhandled and pushed around at times...Needs to play with better leverage...Minor durability concerns...Might have to change positions.

Notes:
A three-year starter...Became the first true freshman to start a game on either the offensive or defensive lines during UConn’s Division I-A era...Missed the 2005 season finale against Louisville with an injury...Missed more than half of the 2006 season with a broken arm...Makes a lot of impact plays behind the line of scrimmage and really knows how to get after the quarterback...Undersized 'tweener whose best fit at the next level might come as a 3-4 outside linebacker.

Here is NFL.Com's analysis...

Pick Analysis: The Cardinals add an intriguing edge rusher with Brown. The All-Big East selection has exceptional athleticism and is a credible pass-rushing threat off the corner. Though he lacks ideal size, his intriguing movement skills are ideally suited for the outside linebacker position in the Cardinals' 3-4 defense.

Watching the highlights on ESPN, he looked fast as hell and could push around bigger, much bigger, linemen. I don't know a thing about him, but am excited to see what he can do. :newcards:

Great player from a small school which deserves a lot of credit with their program, the guy is a pass rusher and that is what we needed...along with Wells, I'm a happy camper.

I had him rated #86 overall but must admit he was off my radar screen for the first 2 rounds.

Apparently, he ran a crumby 4.78 at the Combine (which for a 244 lb OLB is pretty slow) but cut his time to 4.60 (which is plenty fast enough). That may be the reason he escaped our attention.

He's supposed to be physical against the run and a good pass rusher (had 11 sacks last year) who figures to be groomed behind LaBoy and B-Train. He'll have to be coached up to learn coverages and proper reads.

I think what happened is that all the more established pass rushers (other than Michael Johnson who apparently had some questionmarks) had already been taken off the board.

Actually, I thought we'd be more likely to jump all over Pegues or the CB from Vandy (Moore) or consider a few interior linemen who were still there(like D Robinson, Urbick and Luig).

I think the selection of Brown is one of those deals where you have to trust Keim and the Cardinal board to know what they're doing.

I love the pick. He had 33 tackles for loss and something like 18 sacks over the last 2 years. Thats 2 years in a row with more than solid production. If we add Vekuine in the 3rd and I will call it a great draft.

He's already gone. I am looking at drafting Duke Robinson, Sidbury (if he continues to drop) or AQ Shipley and maybe going after Mike Thomas the round after. I also like Gronkos brother out of Maryland who plays TE.

If we get Sidbury, we could just pack it up and call it a draft :D.

Cody Brown fits the mold of an OLB in a 3-4. It will take time for him to learn the position and that is to be expected. Teams playing the 3-4 select a player based on apparent physical abilities and characteristics and then teach them how to play OLB instead of DE.
He also is "smart, tough, and disciplined". Sound familiar? Players like this are the mark our Coach is putting on the team. He is another player of high character that is a quick learner and hard worker.

I completely missed that. Too bad. I wonder if he was our pick at 63? Sidbury would be great if he falls. I like Lee Robinson in the 5th or 6th. I think he could play SOLB.
