You know the Cards are going to at least keep 5, so why would you place him on the IR where you can't develop him? If he's better than anyone else, give him the spot. Do we know that he can't contribute on special teams?

especially when Morey is a bad receiver

if you put Trannon after Q, Larry, Johnson, and/or Breaston, he could still see some good PT, especially in the red zone

while I have seen teams do that with guys they might want to keep around, the fact is that he could be a big help THIS YEAR.

there's no reason to waste a year of his contract when he could catch a few rainbow TDs this year

Because I think that Morey makes the roster because he's Whis's guy. I started another thread on this. It's one thing to bench Green/Graves' mistake. It's another to cut a guy that you brought in.

Trannon outplayed all the other WRs in the last game. I thought Spurlock had a lock on the 5th WR job, but he's been largely absent. If Whis cuts his guy, I'll be really impressed.

Since we've been so hard up on special teams, I'd wonder why we haven't seen much of him. If he appears on special teams on Thursday, we'll know how close he is to making the team.

It happened four years ago to the Arizona Cardinals, when Tony Gilbert was snatched off the practice squad, and he's been a solid special teams contributor for the Jaguars.
Gilbert was a 6th round pick, not a UDFA.

He seems the heir apparent to Bryant Johnson's job.
That's quite a reach to compare Trannon to a first round pick when he has all of 3 preseason receptions to his name.

Maybe, but Trannon seems to have the size and speed to replace Bryant Johnson. I don't think it's a reach to project Trannon to the slot receiver position in a year or two. The more likely candidate is Steve Breaston, of course.

Perhaps.

Or not.

The quandry is: Is he a one-shot sensation because of one good game? Or does he have the physical potential to become David Boston with his head screwed on right? And can the Cardinals afford to wait for him to develop to that potential.

My inclination is to say "Yes." I say this because Trannon is an exceptional athlete who made his mark on the basketball court and may simply need coaching-up to become something special. (You can't coach 6-6, pretty good speed and huge basketball hands).

McCoy had decent size and much-needed speed but was extremely raw. He made a few key grabs last year, but wasn't a paragon of consistency. He's been suffering from dropsy so far this season. This alone shouldn't get him cut, but the level of talent we have at the WR position could.

Same deal with Holloway. If he can make that leaping sack once, a good coach will get him to make that same kind of play consistently, and we'll have something special.

I think what you do with both Trannon and Holloway is continue to put them in positions where they can make those kinds of plays in the hope they can demonstrate that the first time they did it was no fluke.

My reference was merely to the growing hype on the board. I'd certainly like to see the Cards slip him onto the practice squad, and, Holloway too.

I dont know

by the time the preseason is over, every team has agonized over the last few roster spots.

If you cut one of the guys a team has had all preseason, its usually to add a vet that is a known quantity -- like a Doug Gabriel, WR cut by Oakland -- not an undrafted free agent that hasnt played a down yet.

You might be right, but I would rather not take the chance. I say cut Morey and have this guy take the 5th Wr spot.

I think Morey stays -- every coach has a pet, and Morey is Wis'

i think it might come down to Spurlock vs Trannon

I think it goes Q/Fitx/BJ/Breaston/Morey then.............

now -- with Miligan cut, it may mean that a slot has opened for "special teams guy" -- and that is Morey.

Then maybe Trannon and Spurlock make the team

The way I look at it for depth is that you want the backup to fill the role of the guy in front of him -- Trannon is a Fitz type, Spurlock a Q and Breaston a Bryant J type
