The perfect storm is probably a very adept analogy for what happened to the 08 Cards. The team had several players reach the pinnacle of their careers to date during that run. Fitz and DRC leap to mind immediately, but additionally Dockett, Rolle, and the offensive line played outstandingly during the playoff run. Another thing happened that year. The team was amazingly free of injuries. Don't know as I remember as few as they had that year. I take my hat off to all of the players not just Warner, without them he would not have been nearly as successful.

I don't want to take anything away from the coaches or players in 2008, or Fitz' record-breaking receiving run. Or the fact they won one on the east coast when given no chance.

But IMO, the biggest contributor to the Cards SB run was the Philadelphia Eagles. They took out a one seed and a three seed and gave the Cards home playoff games instead of playing out east.

Well in the same way you could say that the weather was a big contributor to some of the Patriots and Steelers playoff runs. I know a lot of people said that about the Vikings and Bills as well and why they lost once they had to play in decent weather.

You play who they bring you and in the post season they don't bring you any bums.

If Whiz and his staff were responsible for our Superbowl run then it shouldn't matter who QBs the team between Matt and Derek.

I think Warner had a lot to do with our success because he could quickly identify defensive schemes and get rid of the ball before they could blitz him. In fact, most QBs complain when they are blitzed constantly, it throws them off their timing.

But not Warner, he thrived on hitting the open receiver. How many times did he call an audible when the coach sent in a play? We will miss him.

Yes, if you break Jerry Rice's playoff record, I would call that dominant.

Anyone have a youtube of Dave Pasch's call, think it was during the playoffs, but it was something like "Pass to Fitz - he is double covered - IT DOES NOT MATTER!"

It's my ringtone !! :D

Pasch says: "It's a flea-flicker...Warner gonna throw deep...near side going for Fitz...he's in double coverage...it doesn't matter...he caught it anyway...Touchdown, Cardinals !!! ... you can't stop that guy!!" then Wolf says: "On the flea-flicker...WOW!!!"

All I know is this coach and staff took us to places I had only dreamed about for 40+ years. We had had some teams with a lot of talent only to find reasons not to succeed. Whis has my vote as long as he wants to coach here.!

Thanks, BIM!

Ironically, I posted the same vid in A&S about how to embed videos. Thank goodness for NFL.com.

Everyone bookmark the Cards channel - it is great.

Can't embed since it is not youtube, but here is the Pasch awesome call:
