in my emails with kurt pollex i asked him if it was possible to buy old copys of games on dvd or vhs? he said that he would look into it. today he got back to me and said that anything like this would have to be approved by the nba and would be something for sell in the team shops. i.e how many of you would like to own a copy of all of the playoff games of the 93 finals team?

That would be pretty awesome, but then again, it'd depend on a) price, and b) quality.

But I can't imagine that ever happening--too many licensing issues, especially with advertising.

here is kurts answer to that question.

Here is a answer to your question.

Ultimately, that is possible...but only if the NBA authorizes it and Suns decide to accept this as a major project to go on sale in the Suns team shops or something like that. In general, if just one fan asks for any type of game footage, we are not authorized by NBA Licensing Agreements. It doesn't look possible right now and only may be possible if the NBA and Suns decide to partner and make this sales pitch together.

We'll see if anything happens in the future. Thanks for the suggestion.

You can download the 93 finals illegally with spanish broadcasters.

But I think it would be a good idea.

The way that television has exploded on DVD, it seems that a team DVD of their entire playoff run in a year might be an untapped market.

I mean, other than the occasional ESPN classic, when will we ever be able to see Kevin Johnson or Charles Barkley again? I have never seen more than a few highlights of Wilt myself--it'd be nice to be able to see them play.

HBO did something along these lines with a boxing DVD that put 3 fights with Muhammad Ali on one disc, uninterrupted. Very cool stuff even if you knew how they would turn out.

I used to tape every single nationally televised Suns game. I stopped couple years ago but i still have tapes from all the way back to 1995.

I do think there would be a good market for the DVD's, especially the playoff games. I'm still upset about not taping Game 1 of last season's playoff series, (aka: greatest game ever).

Suns games I would love to have:

1990 Playoffs - Conference Semis - Game 1 Suns v. Lakers - we broke a ridiculous losing streak in the Forum - something like 30 games - we went on to take the series in 5 - ending the reign of terror otherwise known as Showtime.

1989 Playoffs - Game 1 - Suns vs. Denver - Chambers goes to the line with 2 seconds left to sink two free throws and win Game 1 of the series - Majerle steals the ensuing inbounds pass and the madhouse goes wild.

1990 Playoffs - First Round - Game 5 - Suns vs. Utah - In Utah - tarding buckets back and forth and back and forth with the Jazz - EJ was unbelievable in the fourth and then KJ sinks the series winner with 2.1 seconds left off a pass from Mike McGee at the top of the key.

1993 - Game 4 - Suns vs. Lakers - Close game at the half but then we just maul them in the second half - sending the series home.

1993 - Game 5 - Suns vs. San Antonio - Down by twelve in the 4th - Barkely puts on one of the greatest shows in team history carrying the team, scoring something like 21 points in the fourth and giving us a 3-2 series lead.

1993 - Games 5 and 7 - Suns vs. Seattle - classics - Majerle going off and Charles kicking ass - Game seven 44 point 24 boards - and that monsterous dunk off Thunder's missed three that brought the house down.

1993 - Game 3 Suns vs. Sonics - tied at 1-1 - for some reason I went to see CLIFFHANGER instead of watching the Suns pull out this key game - never saw what happened - don't even remember highlights - CLIFFHANGER?!

1994 - Game 1 and 2 of the Houston series - both great 18 point comebacks - the first one methodically so and Game 2 we had to overcome A.C. Green's continual missed layups and free throws - I remember running around the house with a broom after Game 2.

Those are my favorite games from yesteryear.

you can order some older games from here...

www.pontel.com

they have a deal with the NBA. You can get all the finals game from there. They are kinda expenisve. probably bout 15 bucks per tape.

Get pretty much any finals series dating back to the 80's.
