D.J. Trivia: Darryl Strawberry played briefly for the Phoenix Firebirds, SF Giants A.A.A. affiliate, on a "rehab" assignment.

I really dont think DJ will get minutes

nash
bell
barbosa
banks

are all getting minutes he wont get. Even tucker will take most that DJ would be considered for, since I doubt dantoni will play 2 rookies with significant minutes.

Strawberry. He's a guard, so there's some chance D'Antoni would actually play him.

George is hustling and has shown some things, but we need some backcourt defensive help, and George can't do that. We have plenty of scorers, and George was pretty poor defensively in the game I watched. He did collect some boards, but his man (generally Darius Rice) ate him alive.

It would take some major work, but Strawberry is capable of becoming like the original DJ, Dennis Johnson. Give him some marginal point guard skills and a mid-range jumper, and I think he's just about there.

Any guy sitting on the bench is going to be a situational defender and practice body at best. For those two tasks I feel we need more size.

It is not clear that Otis has even earned an invite to training camp let alone showing a chance to earn a roster slot.

Last season the Suns carried 14 players. This year is probably going to be only 13; which is why I hate the signing of Marks because I'm not convinced he can play.

INSIDE::

Stoudemire, Thomas, Diaw, Marks, and sometimes Marion

SF/SG

Hill, Marion, Tucker, and Bell

SG/PG

Nash, Barbosa, Banks, Strawberry

From a "need" standpoint, it is clear that the Suns NEED A BIG defender who can help against Duncan. Otis George is a 6'8" banger who struggles defeniding against summer league stiffs.

Keeping Strawberry makes sense if they think they will eventually be able to trade Banks or if they see no bigs at the vet minimum who could help.

In any case, my prediction would be most likely NEITHER.

Maybe the Suns will send Strawberry to the D-League?
