I saw a little bit of Barbosa on MTV (lol....I know) and he's very athletic for a pg. I wouldn't be too upset if we took him. The only problem with him is going to be the language barrier because he doesn't speak english.

I think if the Phoenix Suns want a shooter off the bench they should try desperately to get Steve Smith here with the veteran minimum. In 2001-02 Smith shot over 47% from behind the arc. I know he's a liability in a man-to-man defense, but put him in at the right time and he would really help the Suns.

Also, Steve Smith is a model citizen. He would be a wonderful addition to the Phoenix Suns clubhouse.

What do you think?

Joe

If we can get him for the vet minimum and then draft a David West or Sofoklis, it would work great. We'd still need a backup point guard though.

This is a little off topic, but it certainly doesn't a thread, so here goes:
I remember reading somewhere that the Clippers were taking a good look at Collison with their pick. If they draft him I'm just gonna die from hysterical laughter.

Does anyone remember which players the Suns looked at twice during last year's workouts? I just wonder whether that indicates anything. I'm pretty sure that Stoudemire had a single two-day workout.

Van Arsdale was just on Sports Tonight on Channel 12 talking about the draft. The good news is that it appears the sounds really would like to get a big man who can shoot a little bit to spread the floor. The bad news, IMO, is that Zarko is supposedly at the top of their draft board. Worse yet they finish the segment by saying that the top point guard on their board is Ridnour.

I have the highest faith in the Suns Org to come out of the Draft with the best player for the team. I have also heard the Suns Shipping Casey off for another low 1st rounder/ high 2nd.... I would like to see Zarko here next year unless there is a Big C player that can block shots all day. I would also like to see us pick up an undrafted free agent PG to spell Steph.

SweetD, where did you hear about the Suns shipping Casey Jacobsen for a draft pick? It must have been a messageboard because there's just no way any team would give up a draft pick for Casey and his guaranteed contract. I would bet my life on it.

I don't think it was true but I just wanted to see if anyone else heard that BS.

Actually if they can just get someone to score off the bench it should help with Marbury's and Marion's minutes. Without those guys in the lineup last year the Suns really struggled to score any points.

Exactly!
That's why I think the Suns should draft somebody who can contribute right now. I really think West could contribute immediately.

I also agree about Steve Smith. He would be an excellent addition.

Smith would be fine, but I think he'll want either more money or a more realistic title shot. In other words, he should get a better offer than the minimum from the Suns.

With all this talk about looking for a third-string point guard in free agency, what about Randy Brown? He can't score, but he was a pretty good defender, and as long as Hardaway is healthy, we're talking about someone who is barely going to play anyway. And unlike Smith, who is still good enough to shop around for a better deal, Brown is very unlikely to find a more attractive offer. (Yes, I know they wouldn't be filling the same role.)

The Suns tried Jacobsen out at PG in spots last year as well, and that did not seem to be a disaster. He struggled in the same way he does at SG, but he was competent bringing the ball up.

As long as Hardaway is healthy, there is no need for another point guard, but I do think it would be a good idea to get another PG.

Didn't Smith play the point when he first entered the league?
