Apparently Van Pelt created quite the spectacle on the Colorado State sidelines in their game with Colorado. So the starting QB flipped off the Bronco fans last year, and now the backup is wearing obscene Tshirts. :D

"I get too passionate about it," Van Pelt said Monday. "I might just have to stay away from it because I can get in too much trouble."

Van Pelt apologized Monday to CSU, CU, the Broncos and fans for his antics on the sideline. Van Pelt was wearing a shirt with an obscene word on it, supporting the Rams. He also engaged in some heckling with Buffaloes fans on the sideline.

The Broncos received e-mails and calls about Van Pelt from angry CU fans.

"I am truly sorry about it," Van Pelt said. "I wish I could take it back. I'm representing the Broncos, and I shouldn't have done it. I am sorry,

Van Pelt is a jerk. But, he's entertaining. Most of what he does is just childish antics. He'll grow out of it (but he'll never grow into a good passer! :D).

U had to come away at least somewhat impressed with his performance the other day at SDS. It will take some time but he made some throws and plays that make me think he has a future.......

I'd never even heard of the guy before that game.

I thought it was Alex Van Pelt. :(

One game doesn't make him a good NFL QB. His running ability is up there with the best of the NFL QBs, but his passing just isn't.

Apparently his shirt said F CU but the F had 3 letters after it.

I guess the issue is Colorado is of course the team of choice for a lot of Bronco fans so he annoyed a bunch of people.

Mauck signed with the Titans which apparently has Denver now looking at Kliff Kingsbury or possibly Rohan Davey. Davey can't go on the PS, they apparently hadn't expected Mauck to sign elsewhere.

So now you've got one backup QB and he's doing stuff like that has to make you wonder if you can rely on him?

LOL. Just like one game doesn't make him a bust. You can rip his passing ability all you want but if you watched the same game i did (and admittedly this was my first view in a NFL uniform) he made some really nice passes esp the TD that was against our first team D. I mean lets be honest here you are not really going out on a limb here saying he won't amount to much, but i think he is a playmaker and i even like his ability to pass the ball better than Jake. Im not saying he is a future pro bowler, i just dont think you are giving him credit for a good game......

You guys may be over-emphasising the crossover fan base. CU has problems filling a 50,000 seat stadium when playing good teams. Boulder may be in close proximity to Denver, but they are worlds apart in many ways.

Yes, I'm sure some Buff fans contacted the Broncos, and the Broncos shook their finger at Van Pelt. The Broncos attendance isn't going to suffer if all the season ticket holders that are Buff ticket holders cancel.

I like Van Pelt. I like his fire, and his just get it done approach. He may not be as accurate as you'd want him to be, but that can be improved on. It's harder to change a follower into a leader.

No, but I watched his entire college career, so that's what I'm basing it on. If I just watched one game (as I presume you have), I'd be saying great things about his passing, too.

well i saw about three CSU games over the last four years so I will just have to take your expert word for it..... (although i remember thinking he was a good QB with moxie....I never remember thinking he was a below average passer)

But if he becomes a pro-bowler...or even gets a start this year...you owe me a beer:beer:

One more point pariah....you must be some sort of CSU fan to have watched every one of his games. Is there any bias in this analysis.....

I was wondering who-

Was this Van Pelt that was in for Jake, and was very impressed with his play, his scrambling ability looked like Jake and I thought his throwing was very good. I think we are going to be seeing more of this young man!!

I was using hyperbole when I said "his entire career," but living in Denver I have had the opportunity to see many of the games, and have also had the benefit of seeing the highlights every week, reading the accounts of the games, and listening to talk radio about them (though CSU doesn't get as much air-time as CU).

While I prefer CSU over CU when it comes to football, I went to ASU. So no, I don't think there's a real bias on my part. I'm a pretty casual fan.
