Ok guys I'm sorry if this has been done before, i searched and didnt find anything, but i was wondering why is everyone a sports fan? I was thinkin about this earlier and trying to figure out what makes me a sports fan and why i enjoy it so much. For me i guess its just the pure joy and excitement that comes from it. I also think its the fact that it brings people together. Some of my good friends i met through talkin sports and take this board for example, most of us dont know each other yet we talk like we are old friends. Thats what i love about sports and i was wondering what everyone else loves about it.

I am not a sports fan.

I am a football fan.

Can't watch baseball, basketball, hockey, or even rugby and college football on TV.

But football I can watch all day long. Plus the NFL offseason is more exciting than any of the sports above.

I played sports until I was about 24. I enjoyed playing football, baseball and kickboxing. My father and grandfather were both Cardinal football and baseball fans back in St Louis. I remember going to the games from about the time I was five and have enjoyed going ever since.

I love the fact that there is no guarantee of a successful ending.
I love the happiness with a great win, and the sadness of a terrible loss.
I love the camraderie of sports, and hanging with friends.
I love the competition, and one on one battles, and stories associated with sports.
I love making predictions, and having them come right, to brag to friends.
I love making predictions, having them come wrong, and making excuses about why it happened.
I love the hope and anticipation looking forward to a championship every year, although most of the time, this is a bit of a disappointment.
Sports are the best entertainment in the world, and the authentic competition is something that cannot be replicated.

Why am I a sports fan?

Well, I used to watch the grass grow but I could never really tell who won. Then, one day I noticed people playing games on the field and I could tell who won. Add beer, an obnoxious opinion and an "I know it all" attitude and a sports fan was born.

Oh and I played sports through high school...football, hockey and baseball.

I am a sports fan because it is something that brings me happiness and joy, but sometimes heartache and pain. But I guess that's what makes me enjoy it more because being a fan of a team, and following and watching them succeed, it brings so many positive emotions. And when things go wrong, the sadness is there, but there's always hope for more positive things.

Sports have been the backbone for most of my life and it's something that's just a part of me I guess.

It's just simple logic...

I cannot think of one good reason NOT to be a FOOTBALL fan... therefore, I am...

Sports teaches one that if your expectations are based on the performances of others, you will be surely disappointed. i.e. My expectations of the Cardinals and their resulting performance. I expect them to be mediocre and they let me down. Classic under performers. It is humbling in the least.

1. Next best thing to participating directly.

2. Unlike most of the stuff on TV (which is prewritten and, therefore, predictable and boring) you never definitely know in advance the outcome of a competitive sporting event.

3. Hairy, sweaty bodies.

1. It's tons of fun! Highs and lows. Hope. Disappointment. Anger. Exhileration.

2. People like you guys on ASFN. Comaraderie, people!

3. Gives me an excuse to gamble on anything (who's in for $1 for first 3-pointer, $1 for first caution lap, $1 for first homerun, etc.).

4. Gives me a good excuse to drink beer, especially on weeknights.

5. It impresses men.

"I've got to go, Rock. It's allright.
I'm not afraid. Some time, Rock, when the team is up against it, when things
are wrong and the breaks are beating the boys, tell them to go in there with all
they've got and win just one for the Gipper. I don't know where I'll be then,
Rock, but I'll know about it, and I'll be happy."

The Thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
Being apart of something bigger than yourself, that's what sports is all about

Sports is the ultimate reality show.

There is no pre-planned produced outcome. You never know what is going to happen and just when you think you have seen it all, something will suprise you.

It is the spontaniety and the unexpected outcome that keeps me coming back.

I also love the study of the technical and game planning aspects of football in particular and basketball and baseball to a lesser degree.
