I think they average about 3,000, a far cry from the SEC teams,

I hate when people compare Pac 10 attendance numbers to SEC attendance numbers in anything. Pac 10 schools are in REAL cities, SEC schools are in BFE and there is nothing to do except go to Auburn sports.

Most people in the Phoenix area are from somewhere else. I became a Suns fan in 1970, because this is where I wanted to spend the rest of my life. I made the move in 1978.
That sounds a lot like me. I have been a Phoenix sports fan since 1998 (and before really, I liked the Suns since Barkley first went there) and I am planning on making my move within a couple of years. If more people looked at it like you do, I think Phoenix would be a great sports town. It's already a good NBA town because the Suns have been there for so long now, so why wouldn't the D-Backs and Cardinals be as popular say 15 years from now when they have been around for awhile

The Cardinals. Well, that's a different story. The answer is in one word -- Bidwill. :bang:

What is BFE?

The only problem is the Pac-10 competes with the SEC head-to-head for championships. If you draw a line 10 to 20 years down the road, which programs are going to be stronger? The ones that draw 10,000 a game? Or the ones that draw 3,000?

The fact remains that fan support in Phoenix is a far cry from even other big cities. I cringe when people compare us to LA, which does seem to set the bandwagon standard for us.

Hasn't been much of a problem so far, the Pac10 has more championships than any other conference and a Pac10 team won the baseball title again this year. It could change, but I doubt it will.

Why is the Diamondbacks attendance so low?

Here is the list of games played on Friday, July 27. The Diamondbacks had an attendance of 27,151 for their 8-7 victory over the Braves. The only home team that drew less than the Diamondbacks that evening was the Kansas City Royals.

The Diamondbacks are in first place in the NL Wild Card standings and have won seven games in a row. What is wrong with the baseball fans of Phoenix? Perhaps the Diamondbacks should consider moving to a city where they will be better appreciated by the fans.

I think a big part of it, now that I've put some thought into it is that no one thinks (including myself) that this team is 'for real.' Its lost a piece of its starting rotation, its going to need a ton of young guys to show up sometime in order to do something, I think fans here have been so jerked around by a lousy product for the last few years that they don't trust the Dbacks yet. Hopefully with steady, consistent winning, that trust can be rebuilt.

And like I said before, the very nature of the Valleys geography hurts all sports teams, people who buy some cheap house out in Surprise don't want to spend nearly 2 hours a night going to and from a game. Phoenix is growing more dense however, I think the more condo towers, hotels, and infill projects we see built in the center city, not only will our sporting attendance improve, but our quality of life in general.

I think once the Dbacks make the playoffs this year attendance will come around.
Bingo. That's why they should push for it. Now that we're basically in August, and leading the wildcard and tied for the division lead, there is no reason why you do not go for it, acquire someone in a trade (pitcher)

I think the offense is finally coming around, hopefully it isnt just another hot streak where we'll die off again

Yeah there is really no excuse at this point in the season for people not to be going to the games... But then again, they don't advertise. Put a couple commercials on TV and point out how they are in first place with around 50 games left in the season and maybe people will start to go.

It is pathetic. I live in Tucson, but if I lived in phoenix, I would go to a game every 2 weeks or so. But again, I think the reason people don't go is because we don't have a guy that is going to hit 40 homeruns, or a pitcher that is going to strike out 12 or anything like that...

We do have a hustle machine and the best defensive infielder in the league, but too many guys fail to excite people, and while we are in first, the team is not that entertaining to nonbaseball fans.

The most exciting part about the dbacks again, we have won many one-run ball games and Jose Valverde always puts on a show, Byrnes unnecessary dives all over the field, and Hudson wowing everyone with his athletic abilities. For a while I thought Quentin or Reynolds would be that monster bat, but apparently not.

Pretty much how I became a fan too. I lived in MD for the first 15 years of my life then my family moved out here to AZ. To me, Arizona is so much better than Maryland, I might not be from here originally but damn, I love it here.

Man, we were so spoiled to get to see Randy Johnson and Curt Schilling pitch in their prime. Those guys were simply unhittable most night for a couple few years there. Free thirstbusters from ten plus strikeouts were great. Was is it 12 K's? Did they change it at some point?

this is a really fun team to watch - i didn't make it out until the marlins series and both my wife and I had a great time

we were also able to score some good seats a good price from a scalper which is a direct result of the attendance issues

it's a good environment in there right now - much better than the past couple years - i really haven't liked the past teams, but this one is fun and I'm going to check them out a couple more times this year for sure
