Just sitting at my desk thinking about the last few weeks and given that it seems that Matt was never Whiz's guy, it seems strange we didnt go after him

Maybe because he is a PITA prima donna and the Cards didn't want another one ( see ML ).

I see what you are saying...but personally i'm glad we didn't go for him as Wally said he's a PITA, he gives me the heebegeebees just looking at his cheesy grin. I wouldn't have lasted the season having to watch him every week :)

Not Whiz's kind of guy. Being from Syracuse, I know things about McNabb that I don't necessarily want to share on this board. Character is questionable, plus he can't stay healthy.

All valid points, but i would be a hell of a lot more confident 3 titles off the belt if we had him right now.

Because we would have had even more discussions about Leinart not getting a chance. The same would have happened if we signed Jason Campbell. Whiz said Leinart would get a fair shake, and so he didn't bring in a big name to challenge him. Leinart failed to establish himself as a significantly better option than DA, and so Da is starting.

The one thing to remember through all of this is that Leinart was given the best opportunity that he could ask for and he failed.

What is questionable about McNabb's character?

I think, "Whiz the politician" aided and abetted by a compliant local press corps, could have found the language justifying the hiring of say, Campbell and DA as competitors for the job.

"We are always looking for opportunities to improve our team depth", Graves said. "Matt has worked hard in the offseason and matured. He is still very much in the running", added Coach Whisenhunt.

Then, they could have shopped ML at the draft for just about anything, and after a few days of controversy... the fans would be back to the "In Whiz I Trust" mantra.

Almost any other approach would have been better then what has occurred.

We didn't trade for him because it cost a 2nd rounder this year, meaning no Daryl Washington, and a conditional pick next season. Way too much to give up for McNabb.

Better question is why we didn't go after Bulger, he along with Anderson would be a nice 1-2 QB combo, it would push Anderson to #2 and you could put either Hall or Skelton at #3 and the other on the PS.

If you are of the opinion that McNabb would be a good QB for us(i myself have doubts but he would have been a much better option then DA) then a good QB over Washington would have been a very easy choice to make. Plus we traded a 3rd rounder to move up to get Washington so we would have still had another 3rd rounder to work with along with the Roberts pick to still pick another LB if we saw fit to.

Well, it's doubtful that we could have stashed either rookie on the PS. There was plenty of talk about Skelton as a huge prospect down the road and we gave up too much already just to get him. As for Max Hall, I'll never understand how he went undrafted but he would not have made it to the practice squad. I forget which one but I saw at least one scouting publication that had him as the 6th or 7th best QB prospect in the draft.

"the" thing they talked about in terms of Leinart's failings was the fact that he failed to gain the confidence of the team. Gambo / Ash observed that during the whole process over the last two weeks, not a single teammate stood up for him.

Here is what I find interesting about McNabb -- this year his old teammates in Philly seem happy to have him gone. I just find that curious.

Pretty interesting similarities isn't it. In fact a few stood up for Kolb publicly and by all accounts a lot more stood up for him behind closed doors as well. There was without a doubt a locker room issue going on in Philly as well.

Would you give up Daryl Washington to have a 1 or 2 year Mcnabb rental? I wouldn't.

If you have spent 3 years in a system, splitting time between starting and backing up a hall of fame QB, you have no excuses. Facts are that Leinart failed to significantly outplay a QB who had been in the system for less than 6 months, and who had rookie wide receivers to work with. Leinart failed, pure and simple.

even more so in that the Eagles won with McNabb.

Winning tends to smooth things over-- no so in this case

Depends on if they worked out an extension or not.

Without a shadow of a doubt and twice on Sundays I take the Good QB(any good QB this doesn't have to apply to just McNabb) for 3-4 years then any LB in the league past, present or future.

Does that really matter? There obviously was a huge controversy and media circus with D.A. and Matt was dropped, much better to have a perrenial pro-bowler and champioship caliber QB than a journeyman never was...
