Every single play our opponents can gain 8 yards if they want to. 10 yard cushions, 15 yard cushions. Just throw short comeback routes all day.

I know we have some talent issues at LB, but there is some talent here. We aren't going to be the best D in the league with this personnel but there's no way we should be THIS bad. The coaches have to be accountable at some point.

By week coming. I say he gets the ax no matter what happens in this game.

He will without a doubt be here after the bye week week. Dude just drew up a little bit of the Saints own medicine with a lot of bracket coverages that threw Brees for a loop.

You feel better about the defense for the rest of the season based on this game? oookay.

They're still missing a ton of tackles and getting precious little pressure on the QB.

Like your prediction... I have no idea about the rest of the season...

Yep

Thats why we're in the position we're in, neglecting our holes in this D. We won but we still have issues defensively

Our D won the game for us, 2 TD's, and Lenon's INT to the 2. No complaints today.

Davis did draw up some very good packages and even blitzes that threw Brees off, including their last TD scoring play which if the QB wasnt a superbowl MVP like Brees we might have pulled off, but our D as a whole still isnt anywhere where it needs to be. Kudos on a great game but im with Pariah on this one as i need a lot more from them for me to even entertain the idea that Davis should be kept as the DC.

The D made plays today so kudos for that but issues still exist (cannot stop the run, cannot rush the passer, mistackling)

You just described the 2009 Saints Defense. They only needed one key stat on defense to be good at, Turnovers.

the 2008 Cards too.

The big differance...both those teams had dynamic offenses!!! You have to be dominant on 1 side of the ball, we aren't right now.

That's not totally fair; the 2009 Saints were T13 in the NFL in sacks without having a dynamic pass rusher like Peppers or Allen.

The thing with Davis is that I think he asks players to read and execute that they're just not able to yet. I'm thinking specifically of Washington and Lenon. That Shockey TD was because Lenon didn't read his keys well and was over-aggressive.

We've seen Bill Davis put together effective schemes to limit some of the best quarterbacks and offenses in the NFL. Look at the Vikings game last season. I think/hope that we'll see improvement as some of our players learn their roles in the defense and begin to understand the concepts that the team is running. You're seeing it from veterans like Kerry Rhodes (on pace to be the defensive player of the month), but I hope to see it more from guys like Paris Lenon and Daryl Washington.

The only thing that looks real bad is our two-down-lineman defense. You're not getting any pass rush from Clark Haggans or Joey Porter; stop pretending like they can rush the passer anymore. It's embarrassing. I'm not sure what more they can do. Maybe line up Branch-Dockett-BRob-Campbell?

The real question is how do the Cardinals pass up Wade Phillips, John Fox, or Greg Manusky this off-season if they are all available (and looks like they might be). My preference is Wade Phillips, but Fox and Manusky are also intriguing.

If they're all available, I don't think Fox would qualify. He's a 4-3 guy and the Cards are invested in a 3-4 defense to the point where it would be difficult to extricate ourselves. Although Fox began his coaching career with the Steelers (secondary), so I guess you never know.

My preference is Manusky. I think that Whis is trying to build a program here, and Fox and Phillips would be one- or two-year rentals. That's good for the one or two years, but there tends to be some upheval when they leave (look at the San Diego Chargers or the San Francisco 49ers after Norv Turner left as OC).
