I'd let her get over me. :stick:
WNBA - I'm sorry - ironically, the women just look slower, LESS graceful, eathbound.
I'm spoiled by the NBA high flyers - check th eSuns if you haven't yet

If that is true why is womens tennis and soccer more popular then mens tennis and soccer. I bet Venus and Serina could beat most of the men on the tour and I bet our womens US soccer team to compete with our mens. There are 4 sports that are main stream, golf, soccer, tennis, and basketball. 2 of them are more popular then the mens, those are good numbers, plus the NBA was not a over night success. The year beofre Michael entered the leauge they have no TV deal and were losing so much money, but 1 man turned that around, so do not write off the WNBA. The Conneticut team sells out every game, those are steps in the right direction. I think not being affiliated with the NBA will help in the long run, because i thing the NBA could only hold them back and not allow them to go to markets that that does not have NBA teams, but does want some sort of basketball, or is popular with womans NCAA. I bet a team will relocate to Tennasee soon neas were teh Lady VOLS play(I think that is what they are called).

Women's tennis is more popular because of the rackets. They made so many changes to tennis rackets(what they're made of, the size of the racket face and the sweet spot) that the mens game became serve, return, volley point. Women have more rallies. Remember when people used to say Roscoe Tanner was boring because all he did was serve and volley, that's what most of the men on the tour do now because they can serve so much faster.

On the women's tour the speed on serves is much lower so the game is far more interesting, points last longer. That said the fact is studies show Kournikova draws better than any player on the tour but the Williams' sisters, nobody is paying because of her tennis skill. Women use the same rackets but the speed is not the same so there's more to it. I used to love watching Bjorn Borg play, I can't watch men's tennis now.

Women's soccer is more popular than mens' in the US, MAYBE, worldwide not even close. I think the mens team would wipe out the womens team they're just too fast, but the womens team clearly plays better fundamental soccer. BECause womens pro leagues aren't as common, the women tend to stay together on the national team for years so the team aspect is enhanced. men go play pro.

The WNBA fails because not enough women watch it. They have tried unsuccessfully to market it to women, young girls like it, some men like it, but their target audience doesn't like it. Men already have the NBA and college. Men want to see people who can do things they can only dream of doing, that's not the WNBA. There are some good players mind you, but the average guy who played HS basketball watches one of those games and says I could do that at that age why would I pay to watch them do it?

I worked with someone who was on the border of making the WNBA, (she was trying to get into the ABL before it folded and then the WNBA). We used to play basketball on a portable hoop in our parking lot at lunch, she was good, as good as any of us guys save 1, but none of us were 6 feet tall, none of us played ball past HS, and we were in our mid 30's or later(one guy was mid 40's) she was in her early 20's. Even she said she much preferred to watch the men.

Just putting my two cents in about why the WNBA fails.

Somethings aren't as fun when changed from their original format. Basketball is one of them. Womans wrestling is another example. Just not as fun.

Sorry Banky Bruce but women wouldn't beat men in soccer or tennis, it wouldn't even be close... would they beat the normal joe bloe? of course but professional men? no...

I don't find women's sports that entertaining normally because the pro men can do it better. It's kind of the same reason I don't want highschool players play. I do sometimes like womens tennis better, but that's because they can't hit the ball as hard on average. If a woman could play like a man she would. The Venus sisters play the closest to men. Rule changes are probably in order...

I just find Male sports more exciting because they are the best...I know Kate would kick my ass in basketball but would I rather see Kate in her prime play bball or MJ in his prime? Sorry Kate, I'm going with MJ :)

I said that Venus or Serina could beat most men not any of the women, the WIlliams sisters serves are pretty close to the mens, they are breaking speed records all the time, I said womens could compete with the US mens soccer team, and I was only saing that because our mens team sucks so much. When I say soccer is more popular, I say meaning only in the US.

IF they can how come they have consistently declined offers to play against men? Not that any man would take them up, but I know for a fact that they have both been approached several times with offers of a battle of the sexes match and refused. Serena has even said she likes to practice against men to get better.

Serena is currently ranked 7th and Venus 9th (injuries for both) so to suggest they could beat MOST men when they're not even the top women currently is far fetched. Lindsay Davenport is the top ranked woman right now anybody think she can handle say Andy Roddick?

Just for kicks I looked it up, Venus holds the official womens' record at 127 MPH on her service. Apparently Big Bill Tilden was clocked at 163 MPH once, in 1931 with a wooden racket. Not sure I believe that, the fastest "modern" measured serve was Andy Roddick at 154 MPH. Roddick consistently hits 140, Williams consistenly hits 115 and she's the biggest server in women's tennis most of the top players tap out between 100 and 105.

That's why I prefer to watch women's tennis, the serves don't end the point because they're not SO fast that the returner has no chance.

I'll take Serena against Sharapova anyday over a mens match but I don't believe for a minute Serena(or Sharapova) could beat most professional men. Me and you yes, pros, no way.

If the women tennis players are so tough, why do they only play best-of-3 in most matches instead of best-of-5 like the men?

Basically: If the women in any sport want to compete versus the men - they should try playing the same game first. Instead of women adapting to the men's game, they have had their sports altered on the basis that they're women. :doi:

I love womens tennis, mainly because it isn't so powerful

just because serena and venus can hit upto and into the 120s, doesn't mean they can return 140

however, most of the men on tour see serves in the 115-120 range all the time, it's nothing uncommon to them

as for the WNBA ... worthless league and horrible game

it's seriously like watching a highschool game and their marketing is horrible

the way that the women play is so completely different, it's horrid

Sorry Bankybruce but the Williams' couldn't be the top 50 men and the women soccer team wouldn't come close to beating the men's soccer team...

Again, I said the scoccer team could compete with them, I did not say they could beat them and again I say that because our US team is really bad, and you can say what you want about tennis, but there are only about 10 or so good mens players right now, after that the talent level drops off badly and IMO I know that the Willaims sister could take any of the drop off players and could play against the top 10, maybe not beat them, some of you may be right there, but they could compete.

What do you define compete as? I think the Women's soccer team and the Williams' sisters would get beat badly. and I bet they would lose outside of the top 10 too...

The WNBA fails for one reason only - it's boring. It's that simple. Same reason the regular NBA is having problems.

Boredom breeds failure.

It coudl not be that boring if Rose Mofford watches every game! That hair brings all of the excitement to the court...

i don't think venus and serena could beat MOST of the men on tour. they could certainly beat some of them.

there is no way our women's us soccer team could complete with our mens. you just aren't recognizing the incredible disparity in physical disparities between men and women.

Women beating or not beating men in sports is irrelevant.

It's all about whether watching a person do something is interesting or not.

Women's volleyball (not the beach kind) is way cool.
Women's gymnastics, ice skating, and swimming are great.
Women's soccer is fabulous.

Women's pro basketball is horribly boring. Don't know why. It just is. I don't care for women's college bball either. It's just not entertaining.

Skkorp, this nails it as I see it too. I have three daughters and no sons. And, the shop is all closed, so that's it, unless we adopt. So, I made an effort to gain some appreciation of women's sports so I could encourage my daughters if they were inclined in that direction. Women's basketball is only exceeded by softball in being unwatchable. All the other sports you mentioned can be entertaining.

plausible....elementary (7ft) or the 9ft height?

When the league first started I was interviewed by some news lady at McDuffy's. I suggested that they lower the rim so they can dunk and she got completely offended. Then I told her that the ball was smaller, the 3-point line was closer, the halves were shorter and if I recall correctly that the 24 second clock was longer. She didn't say anything else.
