Happy with the win but the defense still let a Blaine Gabbert led offense score 21 points on them.

In their defense, that last TD was absolute horse $hi+. Should have been turnover on downs the play before, that was the worst PI call I've ever seen.

People can say the niners aren't a good team and we should have bashed them, but a division game on the road with your back up QB feel like a playoff win to me. We still have hope that we can turn the season around.

This. So much this. We had a putrid first half, which caused me to go insane on the game thread. Thankfully I put the computer down, moved to the couch, and enjoyed the victory.

I thought the defense played good as a whole. But not a very good game from Mathieu and most of our defensive lineman not named Campbell

I disagree. I think the D showed a lot of weaknesses that Gabbert just couldn't take advantage of. They let Gabbert kill them with his legs (thank God he can't throw to save his life). Later, after going up big, the D did their best to let them back into the game. The one big positive is the pressure we got on him in the 2nd half.

If we had lost this game I would have been out in force calling for Bettcher's head.
You don't run out a defense with players like Peterson, Campbell, Mathieu, Jones, Golden, Bucannon, etc and lose to Garropolo, Taylor, Keenum, and Gabbert.

Talent will show in the end. This team will win the division if healthy.

The first half felt like the SF Niners playing the AZ Niners. The second half was better however without the gifts from the Niners, it would have been a much closer game. Maybe even a Niner win because they would not have needed Gabbert to throw as much. I will take the win and the defense seem to get out of its funk in the second half however the offense still has issues. On the bright side Watford and Wetzel did a more than serviceable job at guard. BA is still trying to throw deep passes to midget receivers who can't challenge DBs for contested balls. What ever happened to high pointing passes to Fitz deep? There is still a ways to go, however they seem to have pointed the ship in the right direction. They seriously should look to move Floyd before the trading deadline. I would take a draft choice for him right now.

Man, when this team gets a lead, our pass rush is going to be lethal. We can't keep playing from behind with all those shiny toys on that side of the ball!

Reason you still feel crumby is probably due to overly high expectations.

Heck! There are too many things outside a team's control that can influence the outcome of a game - Injuries...An oblong ball that bounces funny...the refs...the other team..weather & time zone funkiness.

And even then, seemingly bad karma will sometimes morph into good karma (Example: Iupati and Mathis are out. Wetzel and Watford are in. Yet our OL gives up zero sacks and opens 157 yards worth of real estate for DJ).

Moral - Never forget that it's our 11 large, physical and athletic individuals vs. 11 of their large, physical and athletic dudes - and this a pretty effective leveller that can render those other competitive factors less predictable than you'd otherwise think.

Expectations, expectations. This team is a huge disappointment so far and there is no denying that. This season barely started and we already reached our loss total from last year. That's significant IMO.

This team is going to have to go on a major run and soon or we will already be looking to an early bounce in the playoffs (assuming we get there) and already be looking to next year.

why does it feel like a loss:

1. The defense is boom or bust. they let arguably the worst offense in the NFC go 75+ yards twice for TDs.
2. The offense was ugly again -- especially early -- facing a D that lost its best player (Bowman) and its most talented D lineman.

why I dont care:

1. A win, on the road, on Thursday night with your backup QB completing less than 50% of his throws. Ill take it

I know why it felt like a loss now, and it comes down to thinking about the season to come and the current erratic play of our WRs not named Fitzgerald. Stanton is horrid but some of those deep passes where on target and the likes of Brown and Floyd did not come up with the catch. Sure, they would have been contested receptions but dang that is what play makers do and we are going to need more play makers than just DJ and Fitz. Funny thing happens when you finally have a team with talent that can win something, you start viewing a big picture and it was hard for me after the game to not think about what is going to be required to win

Sorry but the niners are not the worst offense in the NFC. The rams are easily worse and their are offenses with less talent than the niners have. We held them to 14 honestly the last td was bs, losing contain on gabbert is what allowed them to score period he had to have more rushing yards than their rbs.
