The recent article about how the Cardinals need to break the bank on defense and the numerous posts on getting all these defensive free agents may be off base. Maybe the Cardinals need to focus on Offense in free agency instead and here's why. With two good drafts and some decent coaching.....

Defense: age on opening day of new stadium in August 2005.

KVB 26
Bryant 24
Kennedy 24 #1 2003 draft
Johnson 25
Fisher 26
MYoung 25
Thompson 27
Vasher 24 #1 2004 draft
Barrett 27
Wilson 25
Holt 24 #2 2003 draft

Now that looks like a very good defense that could play together until 2010 and won't be impossible financially to keep intact.

Meanwhile on Offense:

TE FJones 30
RT Clement 29
RG Davis 26
C ?????
LG Kendall 32
LT Shelton 29
WR ???????
WR McAdderly 26
QB ???????
RB Shipp 27
FB Mackovica 29

Age, histories of injury, a lot of question marks, no guarantee the Cards could keep them together, and harder to fill the gaps with first and 2nd round draft picks over the next two seasons, even if they could get Leftwich and Roy Williams instead of Kennedy and Vasher.

Sure looks to me like everyone could be focusing on the wrong side of the ball.

But here is the kicker

Yes we will have possibly develped young good players but maybe at the expense of poor records, but by then some of their contracts will be up and if they amount to anything will this team resign them and will they want to resign if they have had too much of loosing. Our history looks dim in keeping young studs if we can't find a way to at least be respectable. I hope we will.
