I've been thinking about it for quite some time but here's why I think Green will be our coach next season.

1- Proven record. You can argue about his playoff appearances but the regular season is stellar.

2- He does have a plan. Reading Jo's article he has done his research. I think he will welcome the challenge.

3- Rod Graves is one guy he thinks he can work with. I believe the Cards managment is now M.Bidwill and R.Graves. Big B will do whatever these two say. Winning is top priority.

4- He lives in San Diego with his family. There will not be a closer option available. Even with Oakland opening up we are closer and more flight friendly. This will play large I believe.

Dennis Green will be signed by Monday. I just feel it.

I would be shocked if he was signed so fast...

But I would totally thrilled!

The quicker the better. Better to get first pick of available assitants and coordinators.

I know most everyone read this quote, but imagine if this were to be his W-L record here.

Green was forced out in Minnesota with one game remaining in the 2001 season. He compiled a 97-62 record there, made the playoffs in eight of 10 seasons and won four division titles.

I really enjoy Walter's articles but cannot understand how he can be so negative on Green. We only wish the Cardinals had the success Green has. I will worry about the SB after we get to playoffs 6 out 7 years.

I would be happy with either Green or Fassel. Do not think we can go the coordinator route.

Green, ten years in Minn. 101 wins

Cardinals 15 yrs in AZ 85 wins

Yes, I also hope for either Green or Fassel. I think Green is gone and won't be back, just like Colvin, et al. I heard Joe Bugel on the radio Tuesday saying the Cardinals, if they really want a guy, need to have a contract ready, and not let the guy leave until he signs. I agree. If Snyder really wants Green, do you think Green is going to turn down millions a year to say, "Well, I'm going to wait until the Cards call with an offer, if they do."

So, I hope the plan is to wow Fassel, just like Oran said the other day.

I don't know if it's letting Green get away or if it's let's interview the other 3 guys then make an offer.

You may be foolish to offer it to the first guy you interview.

The NFL has gotten pretty uptight about the interviewing process for head coaches--

They want all teams hiring coaches to conduct a process and give mulitple candidates interviews, with at least one being a minority--

Bill Sr will follow the letter and spirit of that directive faithfully and not hire the first candidate they speak to, even though he is a minority.

The more I hear and read about Green, the more I like. With his past baggage still in the minds of the NFL brass across the league, that will serve to drive him even harder to prove them wrong. What he did or didnt do in the past isnt a big concern to me. I think he has learned his lesson the hard way by not getting a job for the last two years. He is motivated and hungry to prove himself. Green and his future staff will make us a better team right away. Now the front office needs to have a stellar of season and fill some of our holes. I am not talking playoffs next year, but it is a solid starting point that this organization sorely needs. Out of all the past Cardinal coaches that have come thru PHX, none equal Greens record combined. Hire this guy before we get stuck with the usual retreads!!

As well as the fact that having Green will make this team more diverse (African American HC).

Unless it is the guy you want. By now Green and Fassel are known pretty well.

I could give a crap about that. Wins and losses is all I care about and that's all the Cards should care about too. Give me a fricken New Guinney midget, Downs syndrom, Turrets coach. As long as the wins double the losses.

A couple of other notes(from memory):

1- Green was a coach in SF. Green worked with Holmgren. What better place to go against old rivals than in the NFC West?

2- Green has to have a lot of pride in him. What better pride than taking the Cards and making them contendors year in and year out. He did it with the Vikings.

I was a little off on the time frame but.........It seems like it has an 80/20 chance of happening.

I just don't see Green walking into the cap, player age hell and questionable GM situation in Oakland.

AZ is a much more attractive place right now if MB and RG can convince him that history is just that. Have things changed that much? If Green signs I say yes they have.

Believe me....I am all about winning at this point. People may accuse me of not being a "Real Fan" and call be bandwagon but what will do it for me is that this team wins. If they want anymore of my money then it is wins that will bring me back. Not what Graves does but wins. So, I do agree with you that wins are the bottom line.

With that said, Green being the first Cards minority coach as well as having Graves holding his position speak very well for the Cards. Diversity is not always a bad thing. That is all I was saying.

If Graves (and Green if hired) do not win then fire them. Winning is what counts in sports.
